No wonder Herbie was so adamant about Perry. He made these songs come to life. He was in such a different league than Robert.

Was that one posted on here before like I think? I've had my Ambien, so my brain is a little foggy. LOL! If it's the one I'm thinking of - it was definitely different.

I really like the song "For You" that was on the boxed set. I think Fleischman did great, but, of course, it would've been cool to hear Perry's or Rolie's take on it, too. All that hind sight's 20/20 stuff, you know.

Has anyone ever heard Fleischman's first album "Perfect Stranger"? I tracked it down a few years ago. It definitely sounds a bit dated, but its got some decent stuff if you keep in mind that it was recorded in 1979. He even included "For You", though he re-named it "All for You". Gregg and Neal even play on it! I bought it to get a glimpse at the direction he may have tried to push Journey's style toward back then. Even though I obviously prefer the way things turned out, the album is kinda interesting.......

He looked a bit constipated singing WITS in Hollywood '05. But I guess constipation is a Journey song thing - the whole band looked blocked up in the "Separate Ways" video.

Shit, the guy isn't too bad. He's not Perry for sure. And I'd rather have Rolie covering his own stuff but Robert does have a bit of groove and range. Not too bad if you ask me. Thanks for posting it.

Mmmm...I'd have to say that I much prefer Perry. He brings more depth to the songs and dare I say a little more soul.

This goes a long way towards settling the old argument about what Journey would have accomplished without Perry.

more only what they would have accomplished with Fleischman. For what it's worth, his vocal style doesn't cut it for me either, but 99.9% of the singers would sound inferior compared to Perry. I always got the impression Fleischman was on the way out anyways, and Perry just happened to be #1 on the list. With Herbie Herbert managing, Journey would have likely done well with someone else singing--it just may not have turned into the "Journey" sound they became known for.

I think that's a good point - it may not have been the sound they are known for. I think the same could be said about Gregg leaving. Everything happens for a reason.

I've tried to refrain from posting on this, but wtf? I can't stand this guy. I watched him sing with Journey on a video back in the early days, and he's just too full of himself. He's a hack at best anyway. Obviously they did the right thing going with Perry. Fleischman (sp) gives me the creeps for some reason.

Some folks like him, some don't. I thought I'd heard that him being so full of himself was part of getting him fired. I think it's interesting to see early footage of Journey. If nothing else, it shows how far they've come.

Sure does. And haven't they come a long way? What a great catalog they have. I find myself listening to not much else lately.

Yea - I feel like that old Virginia Slims ad... "You've Come A Long Way, Baby!" When I am not listening to Raw Dog on my Sirius radio - I exclusively listen to Journey. One of the many, many things I love about the catalog is that there is music for every mood. When I need to get psyched up for dealing with students - "Back Talk" helps. LOL!

Definitely Night and Day in comparison but not bad IMO.

Thanks for posting, really interesting. He has on red and i saw a wiggle or two.The early stages of Journey, really cool.i never heard these songs sung with out Steve P. Its cool how things have changed through the years . Some ive liked some i havent. The music goes on . great post, thanks
