I can.
Well, Perry, Schon and Cain ruthlessly fired Smith and Valory - who had put in longer service than JSS has.
Did they? Smith always maintained he quit. I've read fairly recent articles where Valory said he quit back then too. On BTM he said he was fired & lost his ancestral home or whatever. Who knows the real story. Do u?
If your fandom of Journey is dependent on the band members' loyalty and kindness to each other then surely you should have renounced the band back in the 1980s? Maybe even in the 1970s....
Never even heard of Journey till 79-80 so I guess I couldnt have dumped them in the 70s. I'm just not old enough. As for dumping them in the 80s, I kinda did. I wasnt a huge fan of ROR. I liked some of the songs, not all. I didnt go see them that tour (which I now regret b/c it was Perry's last w/the band). I next picked up w/Journey for TBF in the 90s. By that time, the lineup I knew was restored. Oh wait, I did know one other member of Journey who was gone by then: Rolie. He quit, wasnt fired.
It's like being a fan of a football team...not matter how crap they are...no matter how lousy their individual personalities are...you just can't stop going to see the games....even if you slightly hate yourself for doing so.
FWIW I've been to exactly 1 football game in my life. Id much rather watch games on TV than freeze my butt off in Soldier Field in subzero weather.
Ur analogy sucks. People form an allegiance w/a sports team usually b/c of where u live. I lived in Chicago for yrs so I'm a Bears fan. I live in FL right now. Doesn't matter. I'll always be a Bears "fan" win or lose. I loved the heck out of the "lineup" that won the Superbowl & Jim McMahon was my favorite QB. In the yrs after, when he went to the SD Chargers, PA Eagles, MN Vikings, AZ Cardinals, GB Packers, I didnt go w/him. It just doesnt work like that. In football, trading players is the name of the game. I dont know how this works in the UK. I seem to know many Brits who follow one team regardless of their lineup so it must be similar.
When a singer leaves a band, I generally follow them to the next band. That's b/c I like the voice & become loyal to it. Some people follow other members of bands they love. Depends what grabs them about the band. For me, it's always the voice.
B/c of the internet, we often get to know a lot more about band members than we did in the 80s. It's even more personal if one member is not only a killer performer, but also joins in the "fandom" on a message board & talks like he's one of us. Personally, I can't follow a band that kicks that member in the nuts & lies about it.
Go back & read my 1st post in this thread. It was addressed to "FORMER" Journey fans. From what u said here, u dont fit in that category. So why did u answer anyway? Felt like ruining my sentiments? Congrats. U did great job. Happy?
