True Sher. Some people have commented that he is probably sitting back laughing at this, but truthfully he probably isn't too happy about what is happening to the Journey name right now.

See Smith, Steve and Valory, Ross circa 1986.
Look up an interview with Friga in BAM magazine circa 1987. In it he talks about how Smitty's situation was a GROUP decision made by Frig 'n Fro and Perry ~ and it wasn't to fire Smitty, but just to give him a break because he was having some difficulties at home that were "eating him alive" (Frig's words). Smitty didn't agree and left. I can't remember the specifics of the interview but I have it at home. I'm not sure about Ross ~ that may have been Perry.
I always thought the story was that Perry had gotten into drum machines (or was it click tracks) and Smith didn't want any part of it, which led to him being removed.

NONE of whatever is going on involves Steve perry or his possible return to the band.
I guarantee you it is NOT an option and while I know many would LOVE to see this happen, it is NOT the case.

SP is way to smart for Neals shit. IMO.

Journey and Genesis are two completely different situations.Phil Collins wrote:I felt it time to change direction in my musical life. I don't remember that type of comment from SP.

Um, you know, I have such a hard time voicing any opinions with the new incarnation of the group. I just have an opinion and memories of the Journey that I was in, that I can have opinions about and remember good and bad times, as they do. But the new incarnation, really, it's none of my business.

Translation? "Whatever, dude. I'm not involved so I don't really give a shit."

You're talking about Joe Perry, right?![]()

Note to Perry:
Stick with Nuno. Great Player. Leave the past in the past. If Cain calls and you see him on your Caller Id, Avoid it. He's got this tape of his wife that he wants you to listen to. If Neal's number shows up, he's just looking for an alibi for his extra curricular activities.
Don't answer!

Gibby wrote:Steve Perry will never come back simply for the fact that he cannot sing the songs the way they used to be sung. He has too much pride and respect for the music to tune it so far down to fit the vocal range he has today. Neal and Jon would do it tomorrow for the paycheck it would provide but I think SP knows his limitations and wants to preserve his legacy -- good choice. The stuff shreds vocal chords folks. The question is if Steve woke up tomorrow with his 1982 voice, would he consider coming back? I'd love to hear his answer to that one.

Maybe I didn't get the tone of your post, but sir, that's exactly what he heavily did in his 1994 solo tour. He downtuned all Journey hits in order to sing them.
I'm sorry but the thing that bugs me now is SP coming out as the saint while he was the sinner (ok , not the only one, but the most important for sure)

So what if he did? What's the big deal about downtuning? You make it sound like it's as bad as lip-synching or something....

When was he the sinner? In 1997 maybe...but in '87 he had understandable and legitimate reasons to walk away. Other than the TBF shambles he did wonders for this band and has retained his dignity and integrity. Sorry if that sticks in your throat but thats just the way it is.
Perhaps what's really bugging you now is that the band have just openly admitted that their identity is completely wrapped up in the song-writing and the sound Perry brought to this group? Let's face it.... they are as devoted to the guy as much as the most hardened Loon.
