HAPPY TO GIVE (ROR) soundtrack question

Postby STORY_TELLER » Fri Jun 22, 2007 2:24 am

Happy to Give, originated on Raised on Radio, but was used in a movie called North Shore staring Nia Peeples.

However, the track as heard on the soundtrack differs from the ROR track. It contains a lot more guitar work. I've been looking for the North Shore version for years. Does anyone have or know where I can get my hands on the soundtrack version of this song?

Anyone?

Yes, it's a much more rocking version of the tune. North Shore was a bomb at the box office and the soundtrack went out of print very quickly. In 2003 the movie was transferred to DVD and I think you can find it on Amazon, but that's just the movie, not the soundtrack. Look for it in your local video store (probably on VHS though) and you'll hear what I'm talking about.

STILL WANT THE TRACK THOUGH!

...ahem... :)

Yea, when you look at the credits on the ROR sleeve it does say there is a guitar played by neal in the song. Never been able to find it, though he's obviously playing on the live version I have from the DeTour in 2004.

I would love to hear this song with the guitar licks too. Plus, this song represents one of Perry's all-time best vocal performances. Bar none.

And what a superb solo that is, Red. More than makes up for the weak vocals....

It was Deen, Storyteller. Not his best performance by any means...but well worth having for the solo. Will see if I can figure out the megaupload thing and put it up....

Assume that's a shot at Augeri, but Castronovo was singing that live.

Oh...maybe Red....I'm not sure which gig it was from. Deen sounds okay on it, don't get me wrong. But on the version I have of it his voice sounds a bit thin and strainy....

Still...of all the songs in the catalogue this is maybe the toughest one to pull off...except for maybe Only The Young which always sounds crap next to the studio version no matter who is singing it....

Storyteller - annoyingly the version I have is on my laptop and not the machine I'm on...but will try to post it later tonight...if no-one else does first.

I thought Perry nailed Only The Young on the ROR tour. Though at his show at the Fox Theatre here in Altanta for the FTLOSM tour he didn't pull it off as well. I agree, though, it's a tough song to live. Augeri nor JSS could do it justice from what I've seen on YouTube.

GW - somehow it always falls short on the opening line especially - never sounds quite powerful enough somehow. I'd love to hear a great version of it from the ROR tour...the only one I have is Ohio...and the Long Beach show from New Year's Eve late on in the tour....

Cheers XZfla - but the problem (without being too boring about this!) is that my lap-top wire has burnt out and my wife is meant to be bringing home a new lead and a firewall so I can rescue the rest of my iTunes library and transfer it. Hoping she'll be back soon from the shops....and that she understood the instructions!

everything on this board is positive in one way or another. Just depends on your view of it all.

That said. The movie as a whole sucked, though Nia Peeples and the extensive use of HTG were the few highlights of it.

Anyone?

I don't think a soundtrack exists. If one ever did, it is long out of print. There was an online petition to get one released a few years back (similiar to what happenend with the film VALLEY GIRL) but I don't think anything came of it.
What about in OZ , Drew? Didn't they film that movie in Austrailia, or am I on crack? I thought there were a couple of tunes by THE ANGELS on that soundtrack as well.

Oh yeah, no doubt, it was a pretty cheesy flik. I only bring it up for the unique version of Happy to Give.

The studio version of OTY is really ruined by the crappy drums. There's no way that could be Smith playing drums on it, despite the credits in the Frontiers booklet reissue. The production on that song is god-awful. Unfortunately the only live version I've heard is from the ROR tour, which isn't much of an improvement, sound-wise.

That was GREAT. Perry on fire! Especially in the second verse...I'm loving the variations on the studio version here....and a clear recording too. God I love this band....

Anyone know which show this was?
