Because Sting never had a decent voice to start with.

I was joking. I like The Police. Particularly Copeland.
But I hear they are fighting again already.

Incidentally, though, I saw them live a few times back in the day and at every gig Sting had a sore throat.
Also, how old is Andy Summers now? He must be way older than SP. I know he doesn't sing, but isn't he a lot older than Sting and Stewart?

I have seen Sting a few times & he was magnificent.

I believe Andy is about 64, Sting is 55, Stewart is 54. Not too far from Perry's age really, huh? (Optimistic loon here)

Wow! I didn't think Andy was that much older than the other guys. I checked Wikipedia and he was indeed born in 1942, so he is closing in on 65.

Sting is looking pretty good again. Love that spikey do he went back to. That is just SO him. I thought he looked like shit when Sacred Love came out. 03, I think?

Andy & Daryl Hall might be a few of the only 60-ish guys who are still hot. Wait, Sir Cliff too, right?

God was Sting HOT back in the day. & I rarely liked blondes. Did I ever tell u about the time we ran into him in Hampstead? I almost passed out. I was all of like um 15? Here was this GOD standing right in front of me. Holy shit. That still gives me goosebumps. Now this I admit (here u go Red), I fantasized about him being my teacher. But it was all innocent fantasy back then. Just sort of getting in his car & him wanting me so badly... :-) Then again, I dont know if I could go for 5 hours. Sheesh.

What's ur favorite Police song? Mine is "Does Everyone Stare" from Regatta de Blanc. Totally LOVE that song. That album is dynamite. I can't wait to see them.

JR (Susie) wrote:I'm absolutely positive Perry can still sing & that his voice is just as good as it was when we last heard from him on a solo album.

Everyone here likes to joke as if he's done absolutely nothing these past 12 yrs. But he has done quite a bit. Not just Journey remasters. He has collaborated w/& worked w/several bands/artists.

Everyone also likes to say he couldnt handle touring again. Maybe not 3-4 nites a week for months on end w/Journey, but something tells me he could still handle less dates per week very well. Most people in their 40s (never mind late-50s) couldn't handle Journey's touring schedule. It's tough.

I think Perry just prefers not to get back into the limelight again. After all, there are still rabid fans making pilgrimages to San Diego hoping they can track him down! He has a quieter life now & after all the crazy touring, maybe he enjoys it that way.

I dont think we've heard the last of him tho. Call me an optimistic loon!

Hey Susie,

I like your post Susie, and you know, I've never lost faith in Perry's singing abilities! He 's got it, NO doubt about it!!! It's just a matter of when he wants to sing again, and I'm hoping that is soon! :D

Perry

Postby Lebronfan » Thu Jun 28, 2007 8:23 am

As long as Perry has taken care of his voice age doesn't matter. Plus the band can make changes in the songs and Perry can sing in a lower key if needed. Dio is something like 70 and he still sounds great.

The Police didn't reunite with a tribute band singer in a leisure suit! Gotta respect THAT.

I hear there's new music in the works as well.

Sorry mate, but I don't think "hot" and "Sir Cliff" go together. Nope, can't say that I think he has ever been hot.
Your fantasy is straight from "Don't stand so close to me," - so it's understandable you would mentally live the song.

I always liked "Walking On The Moon." Thats probably my favourite, I suppose. It's the drumming.

Sting, I think has always been hot.
Copeland and Summers, too.

Other older guys who still have 'it' - hmmmmm.
Haven't seen Daryl Hall in years so I don't know about him.
Can't think of any rockers who are 'of a certain age' just now, but an actor who springs to mind is Pacino. He must be nearly 70? And looks fine IMO.

Yeh I thought he was way older than the others. But even back then he looked so youthful.
Forever 35. Must have good genes.

It's like Bill Wyman of the Stones, he was way older than the other guys.

Dame Shirley Bassey is also 70, and when she sang at the Glastonbury festival this Sunday - she sounded just as powerful as ever!
She wore a fabulous pink gown, and feather trimmed cape.
She had to wear weliington boots to wade through all the mud to the stage, and the boots had sequins on them which spelled out DSB! Dame Shirley Bassey or Don't Stop Believin?

Damn. I have always loved Cliff. Wouldnt give u tuppence for most of his music tho. I liked Carrie & We Dont Talk Anymore but it ends there. Well ok Summer Holiday, it's a freakin classic after all. He's the only guy my mother & I agreed on as smoking? Pathetic huh?

I think when Sting sang in French it just got me "J'aurai toujours faim de toi". Holy shit. There's a YouTube clip of him live where he says the song is about fucking. Yeah baby. Turns me into Morticia Adams that song.

Eye Candy - Daryl last Dec:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=clJe670fI5w

If they come around u, go see 'em. Fucking dynamite show. Daryl is SO sexy onstage. He does this little dance thing that just makes u go WOW. Pity about him & Sarah tho. He replaced her w/a younger model lookalike a few yrs ago. Great show to see, trust me. They take audience requests all nite. The next day u can buy a live video of the show u just saw at their site. Yeah, they're STILL that good. Perhaps w/a certain lead singer another band could have done that?

I did see them back in the 80's. Always liked his voice. And they both are looking good to me. Thanks for the clip. I didn't know she had her own show! I also thought that high pitched voice [which only dogs can hear] was a fake voice put on for the Karen & Jack show.

And back to Cliff - I'd say he was 'nice' not 'hot' - he's a National Institution over here, of course, just like Dame Elton. So I guess we take him for granted.

And as far as his songs go, I guess if I had to choose, I would say 'Move It' and there was one ages ago called 'Ocean Deep.' Not bad. But I don't buy his CD's or anything.

I was at the Dodger Stadium show too, but I wasn't crazy about the concert. Maybe my expectations were too high as I never saw The Police in concert before. Even so, Sting changed the melodies of the songs to avoid the high notes in places a little too often. The group lacked energy overall, but the kicker was the sound system was horrendous! All I heard throughout The Police set was bass guitar, drums and Sting's voice. Andy's guitar was so faint it was almost nonexistent. Sounded like you pulled up to a red light in your car and the car next to you had a subwoofer turned way up while having the windows shut. The Foo Fighters set was even worse. Could barely make out Dave Grohl's vocals on top of barely hearing guitar.

Overall I was disappointed, but I freely admit, my expectations were really high. At least I can say I saw The Police live in concert now. Lord knows they'll probably break up again at the end of this tour. :(

By the way, it was Stuart Copeland himself who started the rumor about them fighting. He openly criticized Sting on his website or something. ;)

Yep, that would be the one. I didn't read it on his website, I read it through one of the many news reports about the posting. I hope they are just poking fun at themselves, but Copeland is known to have a volatile personality. Would be great if they lasted the tour and put out a new album. Sting is great, but just as Perry isn't as good solo as he is with Journey, Sting is the same with The Police.
