U may be right about many people. But mark mine. Not me.

I think Journey missed an opportunity, and alienated many fans, but even after all the BS, I will always respect Neal as one of the greats all time. Journey and Neal Schon have had more of a musical influence on the music of now than most people give credit. Neal's solos rank right up there with the some of the best ever. I will always be a fan of Neal Schon regardless.

When I say better, Im talkin about overall skills,,, not just speed, not just tapping, not just arppegios.
here's a few for now:
Alexi Lahi(Children Of Bodom)
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Yngwie Malmsteen
John Norum
John Petrucci
Mathias Eklund
Pontus Norgren
Vinnie Moore
Brian May
Tony McAlpine
Fredrik Akesson
Kuni
Gary Moore
Henrik Danhage(Evergrey)
All of the above guitar players can play anything Neal plays, but Neal can not play all that they have played.
Neal is NOT God , unless we're talkin about a short backstabbing God, then he is the almighty lord himself

You're definitely more versed in guitarists than I am, Behshad. I haven't even heard of several of those dudes. But guess what? I'd be willing to bet each one of those guys have former bandmates who were treated shitty by them (esp. Yngwie).

He has had the potentials and ability to be one of the best the last 20 years, but when you're just satisfied with where youre at and dont push your goals further, thats what puts him on a lower part of my list.

Interersting. Many people who post here think Neal is better than ever. Well, they did b4 they dumped Jeff.

Exactly what I was thinking. The guy plays ALL THE TIME and has matured and is playing better than ever, in my opinion. Totally the opposite of Behshad's take on the guy. It can certainly be argued that he overdoes the shredding now but that's just a matter of taste. I think it's plainly obvious that he has improved his skills easily overall.

Better than ever!? Hardly. Has he played and recorded any new decent solo's!? he knew how to shred 20 years ago. He has always used lots of emotion when writting some of his signature solo's. You can not tell me that he is a better guitar player, just cause he adds more shred to the National Anthem song.
Take a look at where Vai/Satriani were 20 years ago and where they are now. They have developed completely and come a long way since then, Neal hasnt. He has not pushed the limit. He may has improved his way to play his old solo's, but he can not create better solo's than what he wrote decades ago.
