That being said, he bailed on some of the tough parts, including the beginning Augeri "Yeah.....", used Dean for others, and they used Augeri backing vocals mixed in (which I have to say made the song).
I know that this will piss some people off, but truth be told.... bottom line to me is that while Augeri never measured up to Perry in form/vocal strength, he did "fit" Journey vocals very well. JSS is simply a very good singer that never "fit" the Journey vocal style that has sold 70 million records, thus Schon recruiting him into the band was a mistake from day 1. I don't think Augeri will ever return to this bunch of clows, even if his voice is healthy and he gets the chance.
Schon needs to get Rollie and Perry back in the studio, keeping Deen or bringing Smitty back. Otherwise this band is on it's last legs.

Some people make it out to be that all Augeri did was watch tape on Perry , took notes, studied and wanted to be JUST LIKE HIM. I think SA was just being SA. Everyone always says he was too much like Perry, but some people forget that's what the whole point was. When people hack on JSS, it's that he doesn't sound like Perry.

Other than the very first time I saw Journey live with Augeri, in November '98, I never thought he sounded like Perry or even tried to sound like him. His tone was different. His inflections were different. Totally different delivery. Just nothing similar except both guys are named Steve, have a long "e" sound at the end of their last name, and have an extremely slight resemblance to each other.

He had plenty of bad nights, but had some really killer nights too.

Stop prodding what is a sore point for so many.
There is a reason why Andrew upholds his journalistic ethos and closes/deletes factually inaccurate threads in a moments notice.
The multiple Steve Augeri lipsynching threads that once densely populated this board were not one of those instances.
And, as Deano and others have clarified, the tape used for FITH is different than the studio take.
Go ahead and post the clip if you wish to heap further shame upon a very nice man.
