If the original Journey got back together, they could sell out stadiums. Oh, they wouldn't have the cred of the Police, but they've got the FANS!

Not quite true. If the original Journey reformed, they would probably have to play smaller venues than the ones they are in now. I can't see a lot of demand for the pre-Perry line up.

Tell me a Perry fronted Journey couldn't come close to doubling that? Steve, it's time...quit fucking around. Poison and RATT were in Chicago last night, a TUESDAY night mind you, and they had nearly 15,000. The show had ZERO promotion. I didn't even know about it.

Your Poison & Cinderella figures are way off. According to this article:http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003566857, they sold about 270,000 tickets for 37 shows, which averages out to around 7,300 per show.

If you do some searching on the Metal Sludge Gossip Board, you can find a lot of stats from that tour and the only one that seemed to come close to 20,000 was some show at a fair.

I would imagine Lefsetz's remarks about the original Journey had Perry in mind. I know that's not the 'original', but it is to most. They would outsell the Police by great numbers. The argument is moot because Steve Perry ain't biting. Sadly.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

WE (the diehards) know who the ORIGINAL Journey is. But the average Joe thinks it's any lineup w/Perry & Schon in it (& generally Cain too).

I can't agree w/that. We're huge Journey fans so we think so. But The Police were the bigger band w/more worldwide acclaim back in the day. Sorry Rick.

I agree. The general public doesn't know that the classic line up of Journey isn't the original line up. Same things goes for a lot of other bands that didn't really hit until after they had changes in their line up, like Styx, Deep Purple, Rush, Genesis, REO, etc...

FYI- Just got this in my inbox: via the Lefsetz letter-

From Vivian Campbell:

You're right, of course, Bob, we're touring (for the first time in the band's nearly 30 year career) without a new record. On top of that, this is our 3rd summer in a row touring the U.S. We are indeed just about overstaying our welcome - a fact that's not lost upon us. Maybe next summer we'll just send Mutt out to do the business instead (perhaps he'll bring his wife along to do a turn, too!). I'm sure the fans won't be disappointed!

Seriously, however, the summer concert business seems to be about catalogue more than all else. Even if we had a new record out no one would care, apparently! That being the case, why shouldn't we benefit from our deep catalogue of hits, performed without assistance of backing tapes? In an era when most others mime, we deliver the goods in real time.

We're very proud of our ability to reproduce our hits in a live environment and we believe that there's a market for live music - now more than ever! But perhaps that's a foolish notion.....

That being the case, disregard this email

Yeah I just got home from work and found Viv's email too.

Ya beat me too it.

In re: Lefsetz' remarks regarding a Journey reunion, to me, it does not appear that he is
asking for one or even predicting one. He is not a Journey fan and has never indicated being
a Perry fan.

He simply says that he would "love to be there to hear the roar"

Lefsetz' is very strong on the importance of the fan base and keeping them happy - no matter
who the artist is - and he is also very aware of the Journey fan base.

I think he means the SP/Journey.
