Oh look. There's Jonathan Cain being horrible and aloof to his fans....

Thank you Mistiejourney. Please don't let these barbarians spoil your memories of meeting Amadeus.....

I see. Steve Augeri was such a creative and commercial powerhouse that had he been allowed to unleash this on the world then Journey would be packing out baseball stadiums. But the evil Schon and Cain plotted against him and...etc...etc...

Please stop this nonsense Fyre. Perry TOOK the damn reins because he was a leader and a visionary and everyone around him knew that and was in awe of his talent as well.

He didn't need to be coaxed into the limelight like some invalid or small child. The simple truth is that Augeri was out of his depth and he didn't have the balls to impose himself on the band.

Come on already! That's just so very clear.

No, it wasn't an easy task. But nor was coming up with an album and tour which tripled the band's album sales.

Furthermore, HH's plan was to create an "evergreen" catalog - lots of hits but no #1's.

When did HH say he didn't want Number One singles?

As far as Billboard standings the pre-JC music is lower however they weren't necessarily trying for high ranking hits.

Anyway You Want It...Lights....Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'....are you seriously telling me Journey didn't want these songs to be as successful as possible? The song-writing was blatantly commercial on these tracks, Fyre. To say that they aimed at mediocrity to somehow pace themselves is preposterous.

JC came in at JOURNEY's peak. I'm not diminishing his contributions at all.

You are, Fyre. At least be honest about it, you devious old snake.

Really? Then how come he didn't do it before ur desired loverboy "Amadeus" (aka Friga the Fag) came on board?

He did do it before Amadeus came along to sprinkle his magic dust on this hard-touring but medium-successful band.....

Actually u threw out the Metallica one. I just hit the ball back & won the match.

I'm really not following you at all....so let's start again by answering your original question.

You asked: Did Metallica make a sappy ballad?

I'm answering: No.

Okay - try and say something comprehensible now and we'll take it from there.

Okay. I'll take another look at that. Sounds like total bullshit to me, though....

Why Fyre, I think u made poor little wimpy Matty Lightshoes cry. Send urself to the principal's office NOW. U wicked boy :-)

I know this is all part of your wannabe Deano spiel but this relentless sexual imagery in connection with Amadeus is a bit tedious and sad, don't you think?

As for the magic dust...well, he last sprinkled that in 1996.

Go back a page.

I know this is tough for ur brain to follow, but u told me to go on a Metallica forum to see how they appreciated my machismo for Journey. I said I don't like Metallica as they're metal. I like melodic rock. U said:

Matty Lightshoes wrote:And sappy, radio-friendly ballads are a big reasion why the melodic rock genre used to be such a success....

I asked did Metallica make one? U are now saying no to that. So, exactly how does that qualify Metallica as a melodic rock band?

Follow now? (Sorry to interrupt ur Friga fantasies w/all of this.)

I didn't say they were a melodic rock band. I said that you who make out you're a tough, ballad-hating rocker chic actually find Metallica too heavy for your ears and prefer to stick to the AOR genre...a genre most famous for its ballads and rock-lite melodies....

I see. You don't like Heavy Metal because it's too metal but not because it's too heavy. Whatever you say, Susie....

Melodic rock is famous for just that: melodic rock. It is NOT all ballads by any means. If it were, Journey just wouldn't fit at all, now would they?

Melodic rock is primarily famous for it's ballads and the occasional sing-along mid-tempo hit too. It's famous for its light, polished production. It's famous for mullet haircuts and rolled up sleeves....

It's famous for many things but most emphatically it is not famous for anything that one can be all mean and moody and macho about. You - and all the other swaggering firebrands on this forum - completely fail to see how ludicrous your posturing is in this context.

I've never praised Jonathan Cain to anything like the same extent Deano sucks up to Schon and you suck up to JSS. You're just projecting your own fanatical personality traits and repressed sexual desires on to what you imagine my attitudes to be.

In fact, I've mainly been critical about Cain during my time here.

Adonis is sex talk? He was just a handsome Greek God. What's calling him Amadeus supposed to do? In the play, Mozart was a vulgar man who constantly engaged in sex talk, loved to make jokes about "scat" & used the services of a maiservant supplied by Salieri, a two-faced nutjob. Forgive me for that reference bringing up sex-talk. That's pretty much what the play was about.

Forgive me if I missed your sudden lurch upmarket....

Sure but no doubt u'll have some argument about them. Off the top of my head:

Journey: Just The Same Way, Lights, Daydream, Winds of March. Foreigner: Say You Will. JSS: If This Is The End, This Ain't The Love, Nobody Said It Was Easy (Eyes), In Make Believe (Talisman)

Just a few examples of non-syrupy ballads.

Gotta jump in here. Just The Same Way, and Say You Will are NOT ballads!
Open Arms is a ballad. Keep on Loving you is a ballad. If Faithfully and Take It on the Run are ballads. They're of the power variety. But JTSW and SYW are definitly a big step up in tempo than those.

Faithfully is syrupy...but Lights isn't? What's the difference? Both are essentially sentimental-for-home touring songs.....

I define metal & heavy as different genres. For example, Yngwie is HEAVY, but not metal. In fact, most of his stuff is too heavy for me.

You like rock music for girls...exclusively. That's fine. But just don't come on strong with all this phoney tough talk about music.

Bullshit. What is Foreigner's "Urgent"? Certainly not a ballad, certainly melodic rock, certainly their most famous song. How about Boston's "Rock N Roll Band"? Not a ballad & yet one of their most famous songs. Asia's "Heat of the Moment"? Not a ballad, but extremely famous for them. Styx's "Renegade"? Same thing. What are Henley's "Boys of Summer", "All She Wants To Do Is Dance", "Sunset Grill", Dirty Laundry"? Not one of them ballads, all melodic rock & songs he's most famous for outside of The Eagles. Speaking of The Eagles, is "Hotel California" a ballad? Can I get mean & moody over that song?

Read my posts before going off on some unnecessary riff. I included mid-tempo songs too.

By the way, I'd say Foreigner are more famous for "I Want To Know What Love Is" than they are for "Urgent"....but let's not go through the list!

Ur the one who is posturing ludicrously in ur too-light sneakers, buddy. Not me. Get a grip. It's embarassing to watch this.

Oh...I'm actually a tough guy pretending to be light in the loafers? Maybe you're right....
