I didn't follow Yes in the 80s. I actually only like 1 or 2 of their songs. Who, other than them & Friga wore smocks? I didn't know Yes did & have never seen anyone other than Friga in one.

Well, if you don't like Yes then it's obvious I'm debating with a lightweight here...

I thought you might be interested in this article on 80's fashion:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A3768762

"Here are just a few examples of the kinds of things h2g2 Researchers were wearing in the 'Decade That Taste Forgot'... prepare to laugh and point:

Skinny leather ties of black, red, white, blue or even in a keyboard pattern.

Pastel blue eyeliner, with matching button earrings.

Yellow skirt with blue harlequin patterned tights.

Turquoise and black polka dot shirts with pinstripe tight jeans and yellow espadrilles (complete with side ponytail).

Yellow looseknit jumper with grey and blue ra-ra skirt (and a confidence that blue and pink eyeshadow went well together).

White brogues, 'Bat wing' jumpers, snoods, parachute pants.

Yellow lipstick.

Pastel-pink pencil skirt, with pastel-pink and pastel-yellow striped sleeveless polo shirt.

Yellow jeans rolled up to mid-calf level with a yellow and pink striped t-shirt and yellow baseball boots.

Stonewashed jeans and enormous trainers.

The Deely Bopper - a pair of glitter balls or plastic 'feelers' stuck on two long springs attached to the head with a plastic hair-band to make the wearer look like a 'wacky' alien.

Legwarmers

Plastic bangles, plastic earrings, plastic beads, plastic glasses frames - all in bright colours, sometimes tastefully splattered with contrasting paint."

And last but not least.......

"Paint-splatter-effect shirts, t-shirts, bags, coats, boots and accessories"

Oh yea - lots o' fashion faux pas in the 80s. I generally rationalize them (especially ones I might be on film in) as "It was the style!" We did the best we could with what we were given. LOL! :)

I guess u don't believe Jeff's story then.

I believe Jeff's story about Perry taking a postive interest in his career. I don't believe that Perry has said JSS is equally as talented. Big difference.

I love ALL of Perry's solo stuff

And there's no syrup on his solo records? It could be argued that "Faithfully" is actually tougher and heavier than anything on Street Talk. Or is it the sentiment and not the production you object to?

Prism is my favorite album solo.

I'll give that a proper listen, Susie.

Jeff is now my 2nd favorite singer of all time. He has moved up above some other people. That is the ONLY thing I have changed my mind about over the last year & that's b/c I collected more of his music. NOT b/c I was blown in the wind or flakey.

 I'm sorry but that it a statement of staggering absurdity and ignorance. Second of all-time? Do you have one of those record collections typical of most women and indeed of most AOR fans? You know..the collection of about 5 CDs....tucked away out of view behind a potted plant or something...

Do yourself a favor and check out songs like "South Side of the Sky", "Heart of the Sunrise", and "Awaken". I think you'd enjoy the guitar playing by Steve Howe on those.

Thanks. I saw Yes in concert, I believe it was the 90125 tour.

I also saw GTR, so I did get to see Howe at that show. I wish that group had stayed together.

The 90125 lineup actually had Trevor Rabin on guitar...Another great player but a much different style than Steve Howe.

Another baffling response worthy of Fyre.....

Then there are songs written JUST to be hits & appeal to the musical lightweights.

Journey went out of their way to court the "musical lightweights". They weren't interested in a specialist or underground cognoscenti, were they? Almost every song they ever wrote was designed to tickle the mainstream. But unlike most bands they were able to combine genuine soul with a ruthless commercial canniness. I'd say that "Faithfully" is the perfect examople of that.

Isn't it entirely possible that Cain actually was missing his wife when he wrote that song? I reckon some of that authenticity struck a chord with the public and they responded to it. I don't hear anything that suggests it was written in a cold, purely pragmatic way.

II have over 500 vinyl albums (perfectly preserved), about 300 cassette tapes, over 400 CDs -- those are all the commercially released albums, all in full view for anyone who walks into my living room to see. I also have a staggering collection of music on iTunes (I haven't counted the albums) & other music on my computer. My iPod has over 4000 songs on it right now. If I'm ignorant about music, I'd like to know what u would call the average American woman.

Well, in that case I can only believe that your critical faculties have been clouded by this schoolgirlish crush of yours.

Speaking of Howe, that guy's looking older than dirt these days. He still plays well, especially on acoustic stuff, but man, he and Keith Richards look like casket-mates.
