How can you hate on this???

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Jul 29, 2007 12:36 pm

Here's a little Bad English for you! Seems like EVERYONE's hating on Jon and Neal right now, so I just wanted to remind you that these guys can write some kick-ass music!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfUMswVj ... ed&search=

This is by far, one of my favorite songs...only wish they had done more albums! Regardless of what happens with Journey, I'd love to see the guys do another album (even if it's a side project)!!! I know there's enough bad blood between them though, that we're probably more likely to see Perry come back first! Lol!!!

This band kicked ASS, and I just wish there were more songs...

Speaking of more songs, does anybody here know if there are any demos/unreleased songs out there??? Let me know!

Dude, Bad English? A very very effeminite Euro yellow toothed fag, leading a band...Hmmm. Let's see, Neal will go play with this guy (Waite) who has half the talent than Jeff Scott Soto, yet he won't play with the aforementioned Soto?
Friga wearing his old ladies clothes....Gimme a break
Jeff Scott Solo...I like it.

I think Jeff's awesome (as I've said many times in the past!) I really got into the Soul Sirkus album, as well as Talisman! At the same time, you've gotta admit the Bad English albums kicked ass! They sold a lot of albums, but would have sold a lot more if the music scene hadn't changed to that grunge-shit that was big at the time!!! Just want one more album...

The grunge scene ruined a lot of great artists! I do think that a lot of the music at the time was starting to sound alike with all the LA bands, but a lot of great bands (Giant, Hugo's solo albums Etc...) never stood a chance when they came onto the scene! If you guys have never heard Giant...Go download something right NOW and check them out! Dan Huff was on lead vocals as well as guitars, and was awesome!!! He's now one of the biggest producers in the music biz. It's a shame we had to listen to Curt Cocaine, and miss out on new artists like these guys!!!

Would I be wrong if I said only a few guys, Bruce, BA and U2 got through Grunge and survived. However, had Journey had SP, they too would definitely survived Grunge. Genesis and the Police pussied out and retired and The Rolling Stones are so big they can never be taken out.

I think you're right about Perry if he would've stayed. Seems like most bands either bailed, or tried to "Conform" and put out complete shit-bag albums! Although I don't care for any of their newer albums, Bon Jovi has survived over the years. I personally think they've "Sold out" on their original sound to keep on the charts! Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to hear another Slippery when wet album!

While Genesis bailed, I think we got some great albums out of Mike and the Mechanics, and Phil Collins. Who know's, maybe we got more from them being apart? I've always been a huge Phil fan, and I hope we hear some new music from Genesis! I'll give them the $ for my cd right now if it'll make 'em get a move-on!

Forget Me Not is my favorite BE song. Neal threw me his pick right after his solo when they played this in Baltimore. Still got it.

Jim, I'm with you on BE- they were a helluva band, and I'd love a new album from them (I think, however, there's a better chance that Journey will record a grunge album themselves than this happening...)

...and speaking of grunge, you can't blame Seattle for what happened to the music industry in the 90's. It was one small (yet very loud) scene that didn't last long enough to wipe out all the more melodic rock bands. When the same thing happened in the 70's with punk and the 80's multitude of scenes (new wave, new romantic, ska,etc...) traditional arena rock thrived alongside it. Nope, two things killed our beloved rock bands- excess (TOO big and too much-everything from budgets to drug use to hair- the music was too slick, too commercial, too corporate...etc, etc....) and (drum roll please) RAP music! You wanna know who killed our radio stars? The rap market. The same suburban kids who used to listen to rock to rebel and be hip started realizing the shit their parents listened to was a little bit too much like the rock they were hearing on the radio, and they defected over to hip hop. When we lost the kids, we lost everything. Say what you will about grunge- it was STILL rock and roll. Loud, aggressive, angry and DEPRESSING rock , but rock nevertheless. Nope, I'm blaming Dr. Dre and his ilk.

But hey, like many on these boards have said...who's having the last laugh? Arena rock is having a renaisance, and grunge bands are a fleeting memory (Pearl Jam not withstanding)...that damn RAp shit is still with us though...

Good point, and you're right. Rap did really start getting bigger in the early 90's. I don't think rap is what got the 80's bands to stop recording their "signature sounding" albums though. Most of them wanted to fit in with the grunge scene, so they stripped their sound way back, many of them went acoustic, and they started to sound like crap! JMHO.

I've tried to be open minded with music, and I've played keys on everything from country, Blues, contemporary christian, beach music, rock (hard and melodic), but I can't STAND rap. Not a big fan of any R&B. About the closest I ever got was Billy Ocean, Lionel Ritchie, Brian Mcknight's first album and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince!

I did like the Cosby's though!

I blame grunge AND rap for messing up the momentum of a lot of 80's bands. I was managing a music store at the time - one of those big corporate messes that controlled all of the merchandising and displays depending on what the labels were pushing. I couldn't even get any display materials for most of the bands I liked, and I remember asking the label reps who visited the store for Bad English stuff. There wasn't any. We'd get a big binder from our corporate offices once a month telling us how the display layout of the store had to go, and it was all grunge, rap....and those damn chanting monks.
