Why do you act so surprised that DLR wasted a show in 1984? It's been a well-known fact that DLR has been forgetting the lyrics to his own songs ever since the early 80's. When I saw him in 1984, he was not only forgetting most of the lyrics - but he couldn't even get the words formed with his mouth. It was like he was slurring everything, and laughing about it. He fell down several times. The last time he fell, he didn't get up. The band finished the song without him, and then they stopped the show. Everyone booed. I remember it like it was yesterday.
What's the big deal? I watched Steve Tyler fall off a stage drunk in the 80's and break his jaw on the scaffolding. The show was stopped after only a few songs. Shortly thereafter Tyler went into rehab, and has been doing well ever since. Apparently his rehab took.
That said, I think it's a 50-50 shot that this tour will produce some fun shows. I'm treating the whole thing as a novelty act for now. I'll take a wait-and-see approach. Without Sammy and/or Mikey to be the stable force needed to stand up to Eddie and force common sense on him to make it through a tour, I'm going to be shocked if the tour makes it two months without imploding on itself. I mean, look at how nasty Dave was to Sammy on the Sam & Dave tour. Dave probably still has underlying anger against the VH brothers for all the shit they talked about him. Once the show hits the road, it's going to be dramatic to say the least. If I don't end up catching a show on this tour, I'll just read about it in the National Enquirer while listening to Diver Down.
I'm just hoping that we don't see the term 5150 realized on this tour:
5150 is a section of California's Welfare and Institutions Code which allows a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person deemed a danger to himself, herself, and/or others and/or gravely disabled. A qualified officer, which includes any California peace officer, as well as any specifically designated county clinician, can request the confinement after signing a written declaration. When used as a term, 5150 can informally refer to the person being confined as well as the declaration itself.
Hopefully Wolfgang can do the work of Sammy and Mikey to keep Eddie from self-destructing. Good luck Wolf.
