OT: Your 5 favorite guitar solos

1. Hitch a Ride ~ Boston (Tom Scholz)
2. Still They Ride ~ Journey (Neal Schon)
3. When the Children Cry ~ White Lion (Vito Bratta)
4. Colonnade Gardens ~ Kerry Livgren
5. Overture 1622 ~ Yngwie Malmsteen

All of these happen to be of the melodic variety rather than some display of technical brilliance, even the one by Malmsteen. I think that's what makes them so great, though.

I remember in '89 watching this guy to an air guitar solo next to the salad bar at Pizza Hut.

he did a GREAT job getting "OUR" MR concert plugged so just a little prop for him.

Tony Iomi from Black Sabbath has to be one of the best guitar players ever. He is a legend and has inspired alot of folks. Eddie Van Halen is also a legend.

Wow, I'd love to meet Lester. I did buy an autographed photo of him from John Vella's online store. Hayes' is my all-time favorite Raider.

Billy Gibbons used to just tap the odd note way back in the early 70s - but i would imagine Ace liked Billy Gibbons too.......

The End- The Beatles. John, Paul and George each taking a solo. My all time Favorite.
Bang a Gong- Power Station. I love the solo that Andy Taylor plays.
Grand Illusion- Styx. Cool sound on Tommy Shaw's guitar (wah)
While My Guitar Gently Weeps- The Beatles. Clapton played a great solo on it.
Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd. Great feeling on that solo, great tone.

OH, and the solo that Steve Vai does in the movie Crossroads with Ralph Machio (hahaha-yeah right). GREAT playing on that. I forget who played the real part against Vai. I THINK it was Ry Cooder.

I have difficulty getting past seeing Van Halen support The Sabs at Leicester, UK in 1978 when EVH did Eruption. Just jaw dropping and sticks with me to this day.

Geesh, really!

My favorite Journey guitar bits are:
the opening of Stay Awhile
the ending of The Time (awesome)
and the Captured version of Where Were You - at the end there are three little guitar screams that just kill me, lol.

Randy Rhoads was great!

I also LOVE Pete Townshend, though he doesn’t seem to get much love on favorite guitarist lists, lol. (Generational thing? Songs played to death?…)

Here’s a great ‘duet’ between Pete and Keith Moon. (Entwistle is pretty great too.)
