How do you figure Lou Gramm had greater solo success than Steve Perry?

Plus, if he didn't feel like part of the band then why did he write the line "we believed in music, brothers till the end?"
Perry is himself a loon.

Perry had every right to make his own solo lp. Others in the band had done it. Why not. This way he got to do exactly what he wanted, and not have to run it by anyone. It certainly sold more than any other Journey artist solo did. That certainly should show something.
The majority of any bands fans are fans of the voice of a band, not a guitar player, keyboardist, or even drummer for that matter. The majority love the sound of a band, and that is what drives them to be a fan. So that voice is something they are attached to.
With Journey thinking of getting a new singer the only reasonable choice was to have someone who sounded like they did in the most popular days.
They had that opportunity and blew it. What 2 times now. It's done. let it go and mourn with the rest of us.
No way are the fans of ole gonna follow a foreign singer. That someone can't even speak the language is a joke. A VERY SAD JOKE

I may be wrong but didnt Neal do the whole Schon and Hammer thing after Street Talk and because of Street Talk? Who else did anything solo?
Journey69 wrote:They all did solo stuff..Neal did HSAS before frontiers and I think right after escape..I have that one..Its damn good..Love Sammy! Wish Neal and Jon would get with Sammy and Mike and do something..
Yes, it did, that's why Perry did Street TalkNealIsGod wrote:ScarabGator wrote:Dream After Dream wrote:My .02 worth

No, S&H came first.
I think you're right on this score. I remember hearing or reading that when Neal did the solo album, Perry begged him not to do it, and so when he went ahead and did it anyway, Perry said "If he can do it, then so can I".Journey69 wrote:I doubt that..He was going to do it anyhow.. And.....the reason Perry went all out is Perry knew what he was doing and Fro doesn't have a clue. IMHOJourney69 wrote:I doubt that..He was going to do it anyhow.. I understand what you are saying.Journey69 wrote:Listen,Perry is one of the most talented vocalist's most of us has ever heard..Doesn't mean I have to respect him, doesn't mean I don't like him.. I respect people that remember where they came from..I'm not a huge Prince fan,but I respect the guy for remembering where he came from..Paisley park is 20 mins from my house..Lots of times he started his tour here and ended it here..After the concert he would go to a small bar in downtown MPLS and get up on stage and play some more ,mingle with the crowd..One of my friends played basketball with the guy and said he is the coolest guy ever..They talked about chicks, his ex g'fs all that stuff..Think Perry would do that..bah!

Jon Cain did a lot of solo stuff not sure when that started however.
I remember the comment that was mentioned where Perry did not want Neal to do HSAS but he did it and so Perry did Street Talk. Then they got back together and did a Journey lp. Remeber that old video where Perry comes off the bar stool singing and goes back stage where Journey is standing. They drink champagne and toast to a new Journey cd. Can't remember which song that was. God getting old just sucks LOL
