I remember that episode. That was rough. I'm sure that has a lot to do with his seeming inability to kick the alcohol habit. Hopefully he has. :(

That's true Dave. After reading The Dirt and BTM seeing how they lived back then, I'm surprised all 4 made it out alive. Nikki almost didn't.....

Vince Neil is in a special category, but I can't consider him a great vocalist. Why special? His sound helped shape the L.A. metal scene in the 80's, and is really identifiable with that era. But he's always had trouble in the studio -- I remember reading how on "Theater of Pain", he had immense trouble singing "City Boy Blues" (it still came out, "City BAA Blues"). Watch his "Remaking Vince Neil" special and watch all the trouble Desmond Child had with him in the studio, and Vince himself admits that there is usually something on every song that he has trouble getting right. But enough work in the studio, and you get the results you hear on the albums.

Live, he's MUCH better when he's not drinking, and horrendous when he is. Even sober, he is notorious for skipping words in the songs, "Sugar... Sweet... Packages... Candycane" to help preserve his voice in a show. Vince never considered him a great voice.

Doesn't mean you can't love Vince Neil's voice, though, and I do! I just don't consider him a great vocalist.

Exacty. He's not the vocal technichian that a Perry or JSS is but his singing voice is simply one MY OWN personal preferences. His vox have a lot of hooks for me.
I also get a boot in the ass out of his personality, sense of humor and outlook on the world. Seems like a very real guy, unlike bandmates Sixx and Lee.

For me his consistently strongest period was '87-'97 but Sick Love Song from '05 is a good a vocal as he's ever recorded.
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001
"I looked at Neal, and I just saw a guy who really wants his band back"-JCain 2/01

He's not one of my favorites but I've always thought his voice had a lot of rock 'n' roll attitude. I like it.

I saw them a few times in '83 and '84 live in LA. Live is a whole different ball game than on record. It was like a different band. Loved his voice on record back then.

I don't know why, but I always thought it would be fun to catch him drunk and acting like a jerk, punch him right in the face, and see what happened. :P

Have any of you heard of Myles Kennedy, from Alter Bridge? In terms of range, pitch and power, he is probably one of the best singers to come along in a long time.

She's excellent! Music's a bit goth, for me, and that male singer is dragging her down, imo. But she's great.

I heard her do "Our Truth" live (I think that's the name), and - Wow!

i may have posted this story before. the last time i saw sebastian bach open for GNR, he spontaneously started an a capella version of lights. the audience didn't even need prompting to sing along. he then said that he learned to sing by singing along to journey records when he was young. it was very cool to hear everyone at a GNR show react so positively to that.

Lol! I can’t remember his voice, but I’ll never forget the HUGE poster of him my sister had on our wall - yikes

I have one like that though, lol
For shear vocal talent, Tom Jones is great!

& ‘What’s Up Pussycat?’ is one of my favorite songs, lol.

Someone mentioned Oleta Adams – her cover of ‘Don’t let the Sun Go Down on me’ is brilliant.

She is very good. She has a very strong voice, however, after reading many of the other postings, I still think that in terms of power and vocal sustainability, Myles Kennedy is still the one of the strongest, if not the strongest voice out there today.

We all know how SP voice was back in the day, however, we also know how his voice was destroyed by singing his own songs.

There are very few singers who can hit the notes, and more importantly, hold them. I would recommend that everyone listen to Alter Bridge to see what I am talking about. I know that I might sound biased, but I just know that a guy with a 4-octave range has something special that most other singers do not possess.
