I agree completely!

They're apples and oranges. It all depends on what you're in the mood for. I've got TBF in the stereo at the moment.

Agree. Both have their place.

That wasn't a comparison ..OMG your shitting me right? I said it wasn't Perry, meaning some people no matter what, will defend Perry like no tomorrow.. It wasn't about comparing the singers, but the songs..I'll take Einstein as a compliment!

I like Arrival and just listened to it today.

But, I have to go with TBF for Perry's vocals and Message of Love.

TBF is the best Journey record, bar none. Arrival had some strong moments, but would have been somewhat weak without Jack Blades' songwriting contributions.

Lar...I agree with your assessment. MOL was a signature song for TBF, and nothing on Arrival comes close. While I loved many songs on Arrival, I am not sure why so many people seemed so enamored with Higher Place. Didn't do much for me.

Arrival for sure. TBF pissed me off the first few times I played it. I like rock, not adult contemporary sissy music.

TBF is winning, guys, by a landslide. Currently 18 TBF, 6 Arrival. Should have been a poll. I can't count past 25

Just because no one is giving Augeri a shot period.. Arrival is stellar.. Everything Journey is.. I don't like how subdued TBF was.. Can't tame the lion isn't much of a rock song.. The only one that is really really good..and its not message of love.. its ONE MORE .. Great song.. The one thing I liked about Arrival that was missing on TBF is how they would take a song one way and then do a 180 on it.. That my friends is priceless.. Neal's guitar is right there in front..On TBF it is subdued..If you don't see that..your out of your mind..There are a couple songs on TBF where Neal's guitar is out front..Almost all songs on Arrival his guitar is out front with Augeri's voice, like Perry's used to be.. My god, listen to World gone wild and tell me that is inferior to Can't tame the lion..

It's Arrival for me. I think Arrival is a great CD. It's a more upbeat CD, TBF, while very good (what isn't good when Perry is singing?) is very melancholy.

Arrival gets my vote. All I need to say is "Live and Breathe". Seriously, I feel I have to jump around on TBF too much. Great album, but I like Arrival better, makes me really sad that Augeri's out of Journey. Then I go and listen to "Shine" and realize that even with that range, SA would have still done well with Journey. I think Arrival would have still been awesome with that delivery/range, though I guess it might have needed a bit of reworking here and there. But yeah, Arrival > TBF.

Perhaps the problem with some of us is we're listening with "Perry Ears" on. What do you expect? After listening to 7 albums and several GH compilations with that signature voice. And then one listens to Arrival and SA doing the perryisms all over that record. A total turn-off. I like his singing on Generations, albeit low-budgetly produced, much better.

Though, I can totally see a new fan, someone maybe not familiar with their entire back catalog and/or SP, suddenly listens to Arrival and liking the music and songs. And I can see the same fan, who may be more into rocking music, thinking TBF is too mellow for his/her taste.

But to have Neal, or any fan, call Arrival Escape 2000, is just ridiculous. Escape is their singular masterpiece. It will never be touched or duplicated.

Arrival is the superior album songwise although Trial By Fire is better produced.

I think the masses will also agree that Trial By Fire is better. As said before... Steve Perry, and that is it all it needed. Regardless how good it was, you had the best lineup ever.

Schon, Valory, Perry, Smith, Cain - how can you go wrong with those guys? you can't.

The line up was great but although I like Trial By Fire on the whole I think it was a case of 'the wheel turns but the hamster is dead' for me.

Consider the recent output from the classic Iron Maiden line up - two sh!tty albums in a row with barely a notably song between them. Kevin Shirley I am looking at you! Redeem yourself on the new Journey!
