I've never had one before but I woke up feeling sick to my stomach this morning at about 4:30. Tried to go to the bathroom and just couldn't do anything. By the time I got back in bed, I felt much worse and we ended up leaving for the emergency room around 6:30 and spent about five hours there. Anyway, I have a kidney stone that is on the borderline size-wise to be able to pass it on my own. Otherwise, they will have to go in and bust it up.
Wow this might not be all you wanted to read!!!You may have gotten a little T.M.I that you might not wanted to know! :D but you'll be fine ....and if it ever happens again you will know exactly what it is!Good luck and hang in there bud!

I felt so bad this morning that I actually thought I might have cancer or something like that. The pain was a little higher than I thought it would be for a kidney problem but that's what it turned out to be.

I'm still a bit sick to my stomach but I feel quite a bit better.
They told me to much calcium in the diet.I have a thing for tums (lmao) and that's what did me in!

Wow, who would guess that would do it? I know there are stones that are made from too much calcium and also too much citric acid. Hopefully Dave can just modify his diet and that'll be that.

Dave if the pain gets too bad, just hit your toe with a hammer and you'll forget all about the kidney stone.

Seriously, if you aren't able to go to work because of it, take the pain meds, there's no need sitting around in pain. You might be right about passing it quicker without them though, so I understand your hesitance.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Dude, man up. One word for your pain.

VICODIN. Shit could solve world wars. I swear if the US Military were to drop millions of Vikes on all those towel wearing camel jockey states, we would be at peace in 2-3 hours. Hell, I bet you Mohammad Yassir Kim Jung Ill would be asking W over for a quick round of 18 at an exclusive Carpet Pilot Country(Desert) Club.

Also, break the pills in two. They work faster that way. Hell, I was dropping them into my lukewarm coffe on the way to work...That way, I could chug that fucker and be ready to work with a smile on my face in about 2 minutes.

Aparently, inadequate water consumption is a contributing factor.

Inadequate water consumption, excess sodium intake, excess calcium intake, excess sugar intake, about 100 other things and any combination of the above. For one stone you probably won't have to deal with tests, CPC, but if you have a recurring situation they may do it. They test the stones as well as running 24 hour urine screening (that means when you reach in the fridge for the OJ be careful what you grab). What they will have you avoid/have more of would depend on what type of stones you have.

Never had one, but take care of people with them at least once a night! Horrible pain. You are essentially giving birth to a tiny rock as it moves down your ureter and then is "delivered" into the bladder. Once it is in the bladder the pain is gone.

Sorry to hear that Dave. I hope you get through it without much discomfort.

Maybe I shouldn't tell this, but.... I was in the hospital once drinking barium and getting x-rayed every 30 minutes. I was there for about 4 hours. 2 of those 4 hours, I was made to listen to some womans moaning and groaning down the hall. It sounded like she was dying. She kept moaning "Oh lawdy" over and over and loud. So I asked the nurse what was wrong with her and she said it was a kidney stone. I hope the hell I never get one.

Take the pain meds dude.

My husband said it's worse than child birth. I'd like to know how HE knows

Did he say it felt like a 747 was about to fly out of his ass? If so, he just might have a clue, lol.

But seriously, I have heard those things hurt like hell, hope you're able to pass it with minimal pain.

Hey Dave, before I even wade though all of the shit that may have transpired since this post I just want to say I'm sorry for the pain I know you're having and I hope you can get through it before it gets worse.

Ok, now I'll read the rest of the thread. If the situation has already been resolved I'm glad for you.

It might be a tiny rock, but believe me, those rocks have spikes! My ex had a kidney stone, and the hospital took an xray of it. Magnifiy that sucker, and you will see more than you really wanted to see. At the time of this, the whole family was on Medi-Cal, and Medi-Cal wouldn't pay for morphine. Thank heavens a male nurse said "Fuck that, this man is getting morphine!" The ex went to sleep and eventually passed that spikey fucker.

If they're acidic stones then yes, they can be spikey. Anyone ever found to have a stone, you will want to hope you have a calcuim based stone - those are completely smooth. They can grow fast though - if you have one, don't assume if the pain goes away that the stone has passed. True that can happen without you feeling anything (happened that way to my sister), but they can also hang around and not cause more pain until its way too late. That happened to the ex. He thought it was gone. Had no pain for a YEAR. Damn thing was over 1 1/2" in diameter by the time he next felt pain.

I have had a few, starting in 98. Last one was last year. Had no insurance at the time keep it for over 4 months..I was in some serious pain. Finally got it out. Thought I was going to lose my kidney, before they found a place that would do it. In the hospital 4 times to get it out after I got insurance. Twice in my town, tried Jackson TN (they wouldn't take my insurance), 1 time in Memphis and Nashville finally was able to get it out. Thing was huge too. over 12 cm (orML) can't remember which.
But I had a stint in for the 4 plus months so my Kidney would drain, it barely helped.
Go to the doctor, the sooner the better. The pain is from 1) the stone moving down your tube, and 2) from your kidney not being able to drain.
I am on high blood pressure medicine today because of the amount of time I had my last stone. It messed my one kidney up. Doc said may take years for it to get back to normal-ERIC

Dude praying won't get you anything but knee burns. Fuck that shit. If anything, pray that he gets a hot female nurse with huge hooters, and sexy legs and she sneaks him percocets and oxycontin(like good ole Rush Limbaugh). Then, when no one is around, she sucks him off like a ball of cabbage through a drinking straw.

That's what the man needs, not a prayer.

By the way, where is my fucking Bible? You told me you would send me one last year! I know the mail is slower than dried up diahrea, but I could probably use that motherfucker!

WOW been there done that ...when I went in the nurse told me she'd rather give birth to twins then deal with what I was about to go through!!Sit down hang on and go for the ride ...it's going to be a bumpy one!!!

I don't think there's much to choose between the pain of a foreign body passing from your body, or having a baby! :)

Kidney Stones

Postby xflajrnylvr » Fri Dec 14, 2007 3:44 am

Dave I feel your PAin

I have had reoccuring stones since 1990. My first one came when i was six weeks into boot camp and have had them ever since . Fist thing i had to do was to cut out alot of the sodas. I still drink them occasionally but I dont live on them ( 6 pack of 24 oz mt dews a day) and now I have one or 2 a week. THe past 6 months i had some urine test and discovered my salt intake was like 4 times the normal limit so I have cut out salt pretty much as i can ( but low salt veges, dont add salt to anything ( used to use garlic salt on everything) ) and after I did that i have really started to feel better. If you continue to have them then i suggest you visit a nephrologist to discuss your diet, etc to see what maybe causing them . At first I was told to much calcium but found out it was much more than that . If you have any further questions Please feel free to PM me as I have numerous pieces of literature on this as I have been dealing with it for almost 18 years now.

2 other things

Drink lots of water and dont let yourself get dehydrated

When I went to the ER yesterday, the doc said the stone was almost to the bladder. It hasn't hurt much since yesterday morning, so it's probably stopped moving, at least temporarily. I hope it passes soon, because we are going on vacation to Florida for Christmas next Saturday.
