Anyone Else Notice a Pattern with 2 Members of Journey?

Postby journeyinto2001 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 8:44 am

I was thinking today.....Neal & Jonathan praise the hell out of their "newly found" lead singers. Augeri, Soto and now all of the great praise for Arnel. Then they shit all over them after they use them for as long as they are "useable".

I hope Arnel had a really good lawyer to deal with these 2.

On a side note, just re-listened to a couple of clips of Arnel on You Tube and I have to say that I am very curious about the new material as he does "seem" to have the strength and emotion of Perry in his voice. We'll see how long he lasts... I do wish him the best.

Much of the entertainment business in the Far East is 'influenced' by Triad activity so woe betide Neal & Jon if Arnel gets screwed over.

Here's the sad thing about what went down. Having fronted Soul Sirkus, JSS was a perfect foil for the scheme.

1. Could do the job. 2. Had a trust relationship with NS 3. Available quickly.

Does anyone believe at the outset they intended JSS to head up the band after the tour? Debateable.

We know this is a dead horse but since the threads here, my two cents.

This is an opportunity for AP, as it was for JSS although I doubt he'd taken it knowing what was in store for him.

If AP lasts long enough to tour or record, he'll benefit immensely from his time in the band.

Not the infamous Triad?! Where's Bruce Lee when we need him?

Didn't Steve Augeri have the same at first? He sounded great for awhile ....then the touring and non stop shows ended up kicking his ass.I hope this guy is ready for all that because I'm thinking he's not used to doig as many shows as he's going to "HAVE" to do .(remeber the boys want there money no matter how many shows they need to do!)

What I noticed is that only 3 people have stuck with Neal throughtout his ENTIRE career! Jon, Ross and Deen. 5 wives gone. Sammy worked so well with on HSAS but nothing since. Gregg will work with Neal on a song here and there. Abraxas Pool fell apart. Smitty wouldn't stick around. Aynsley appeared for one song at the WOF concert. Hardline=1 CD. Bad English=2 CDs. Jan Hammer=2 CDs (I don't think there was any touring). Paul Rodgers for a show. SS=1CD. JSS won't be back with Neal. Steve Augeri: done. Most obvious: Perry won't come back.

I understand why Deen and Ross stick it out. But really, why does Jon put up with Neal. Or is it true that Jon now has the control and Neal has to put up with HIM?

We know that SP "made" the band but the core is and always will be NS. I don't think its a matter of JC putting up with him. Where's he gonna go and be a success?

In fact, where's NS gonna go and get the success he's had. They have to ride the JRNY name to get the moola they want/need. BTW, RV would've been on ROR if he could've so he didn't bail.

We're just seeing the last gasps of what was once a GREAT musical unit. On par with anyone you can name.

I don't think Cain has control "on paper", but I think he manipulates Neal into his way of thinking....for the "betterment" of the band, of course. I think Journey with Schon making all the calls would have taken several different forms by now, if Cain was not in the picture, or his influence on Neal wasn't so strong. I think Cain double teams with Azoff and keeps real change from happening. Cain wants Perry's influence diminished as much as Neal does. Cain has always wanted to claim a bigger part of the success of Journey for himself.

We asked JSS if he had it to do all over again, knowing the outcome, would he still do it. He said absolutely, wouldn't trade it for anything.

The Journey material is impossible to perform for x amount of years without hurting your voice in some manner, I wish Schon and Cain saw that and take it easy on Augeri. Poor guy, then they just toss him to the side as if 8 years meant nothing to them. They gotta get a grip, good luck for Pineda, great voice, but its not gonna last the demands journey repertoir commands for, even Perry got tired on the notes live. :o

Sammy Hagar was going to do the "Planet US" band with Neal, but then he and Michael Anthony rejoined Van Halen. Sammy gets along great with Neal.

Greg was going to rejoin Journey in about 1995 with a lineup of Kevin Chalfant, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Greg Rolie, Steve Smith and Ross Valory. Greg still gets along ok with Neal.

Steve Smith is into his Jazz projects, that's why he doesn't want to commit long-term to Journey or The Storm.

There was bad blood with Aynsley after he was booted from Journey, and that lasted for many years, but he didn't have anymore of a problem with Neal than he did with say Steve Perry.

In the case of Hardline, the Gioli brothers were Neal's brother-in-laws, so when that marriage ended, so did Neal's involvement with the band.

Bad English ended because John Wait is one of the biggest jerks on the planet, seriously!

The Schon & Hammer project was only intended as a side project for both Neal and Jan.

Out of all of the guitarists that Paul Rodgers had on his "Muddy Water Blues" CD, he asked Neal to be his guitarist on the tour. And they did a full tour together.

Steve Perry just doesn't want to be in a band anymore.

Who here would want to date or marry either? They are all over the page on a daily reactionary basis. Their personal lives and their music leaves leave a trail of shattered people. On second thought those are the lucky ones.

I still say at the end of the day, they listened very closely to JSS and simply came to a conclusion, his vocals are not the classic tenor texture they're looking for. Too old to start in a new direction, hence the move to a tenor with a similar range as Perry. And yes, they probably got Arnel very cheaply compared to bringing back SteveA or SteveP.

The only "pattern" I've noticed from Neal and Jon is th desire to work, create and record. Management simply hasn't done a good enough job searching for the right fit for them...til now. 8)
