While I enjoyed seeing the pics, I can't blame him, it was a private wedding of a friend. He probably didn't want them splashed all over the internet. There is some real nutjobs out there. :?

Exactly

The wedding planner did not include any other pics from that wedding or pics of any other guests.

I felt that it was exploitive and the wedding planning company was using Mr. P as bait trolling for clients.

I doubt that the C&D would have been issued has it been a fan site.

However, it is not a fan site - it is a business trying to increase traffic - and it appears that they did not ask his permission. This was a private event - not a public one.

Why not blame the wedding planner for their actions.

Get real. The man has been in the public eye for over 30 years. So, what is he going to do? Have his lawyer send "cease and desist" orders to every freakin website in the world?
If he has that much of an issue with having his photos published, then maybe he should just stay home and become a hermit. There comes a time when someone needs to take charge of their life and learn to live it with confidence, not in fear which it seems what SP is doing. Life is too short Mr. Perry. Shake off the bad vibes and get with the program.

Sure he can.  But I've also seen first hand how a nutjob can run wild with a picture.  Still luv ya too Niglet.

Besides it was his friend's wedding not his, maybe he was trying to protect his friend's privacy.

Fuck the public eye crap. This was a private event - not a public one.

So no his lawyers probably would not send c&d to fan sites - they post pics of him in public all the time. He was not in public.

the wedding planner did not include any other pics from the wedding or of any other guests . Just a headline "Rock Legend Attends Wedding"

the wedding planner was wrong.

I do not see this as Mr. P living his life in fear - he has every right to live it in peace as anyone else at a private event.

Sorry, my fault - I forgot.

So let's see, Perry has been responsible for:

Any bad thing that ever happened in Journey
All of Neal's marriages breaking up
Krakatoa
He was seen on the grassy knoll in Dallas '63 at the time of the Kennedy assassination
Falsifying the first moon walk
The tsunami a couple of years ago
The Chicago Fire
9/11
And not wanting pics from private events being used as advertising.

I am sure I missed a few.

There's also the issue of copyright laws when it comes to the pictures. Unless Mr P owns the negatives, Mr P really has no control over what the photographer does with the pictures or who the photographer lets use the pictures. For all we know the photographer may have let the website post the pictures. Or maybe, the photographer works for the website and the couple hired them to take the pictures. Stranger things have happen. Mr P would not know about that part now would he? How many times has a person had a picture taken by a photographer and then becomes famous and those pictures show up years later? When a couple marries and they hire a photographer to take the pictures the photographer keeps the negatives. The negatives do not go to the couple. If I understand correctly, the copyright is for 75 years. Alot of people who work on their family tree were up in arms on that when it became law.

It is not just a pic

It is pics from a private event (and no you probably wont see pics of Neal from a private event - because it's PRIVATE]

and this fucking crap about Perry not allowing his pics on the net????

Are you fucking kidding me???

Every Perry site has thousands of pics.

Including sigs

There are many pics of him posted here (usually to piss someone off).

His pics are all over the net

And many of them are used to ridicule him.

and he hasn't mumbled a word.

The operative word here is PRIVATE

Obviously there is enough copyright law in his favor for a court to issue a c&d.

I'm with cat on this one - it was a private event and the website used his presence and his image to increase traffic and drum up business. That may be why they were able to get them pulled even though, legally, they're not Perry's pics/copyrights. Not to mention, they didn't just use the pics. They used his name and gave a detailed description of what he was doing there, his role in the wedding, and his interactions with guests.

Furthermore, they didn't simply include the pics as part of a pic gallery or site news - they gave that it's own page... yourbridalplanner.com/StevePerry.html - or whatever it said. They put up a specific page with his name. That's not too cool.

If we were just talking normal pics and he cried like a bitch and had them pulled, I'd be rolling my eyes at him too. But there's a little more to it than that this time.

When a legitimate, money making business uses an image of someone or something to benefit or promote themselves, it falls under the category of advertising. Without signing a contract or accepting a monetary exchange, Mr. P had every right to do what he did.

I've been in the publishing business for the past 15 years, and this is daily practice.

And yes, I'm a Perry fan too.

He was JUST the best man. The attention is supposed to be on the bride and groom and the joyous ocassion of their marriage not on one guest. If I were the bride I'd be ticked off that all the attention for my wedding has now become a showcase for Steve Perry.

But when you are at a wedding, the pictures WILL be splashed all over the internet, at least for a while. I can go to my daughter's site right now and see everyone at her wedding. If Steve Perry was there, he'd be in those pictures, too. They couldn't be reproduced, the copyright/photographers name was splashed all over them. What harm were they doing? What could a nut job do with those pictures?

Dear lord, I can understand privacy. Really, I can. But this is beyond the pale.

If we were just talking normal pics and he cried like a bitch and had them pulled, I'd be rolling my eyes at him too. But there's a little more to it than that this time.

Good point.

Still think it is a bit much, though, and I have shown loon tendencies on occasion.

[If I had a popcorn smilie I'd use it here - interesting discussion either way! :D ]

I thought it was weird the first time I saw them. Plus, I'd have been crucified six ways to sunday by one half of the fan base if I'd posted what I really wanted to say. (NIG probably would have liked it though)

I wanna know what you were gonna say! :D :D :D

Well this has been entertaining. :)

Personally, I'm not surprised the pictures were taken down (I'm actually surprised SP allowed them to stay up for so long for valid reasons already stated [his friend's wedding, private event, blah blah blah]).

I'm disappointed I didn't try to save them before they disappeared but oh well.
Call me a loon, I think what Perry did was fair. If he wants to be uncomfortable about pics of that nature (again, his friend's wedding, private event, blah blah blah) fine!
Whatever dude.
It's your name.

Now, if he starts taking legal action to remove the Journey/SP boots and music vids from yootoob, be forewarned I will most definitely have a very heartfelt and very passionate hissy fit.

...

Nuts, there isn't a good smilie for "hissy fit"...
Oh well. You get the picture.
