Winds of Freedom: Jeff and Jeremey

Postby Journey69 » Wed Dec 26, 2007 12:30 pm

I have winds of freedom back to back on a cd With Jeff 1st then Jeremey.. I listened to them at least 5 times each..I really like the song.. Jeff has a more soulful version..The hooks Perry is known for is present in the middle of the song, the end was ok.. When Jeremey sang it sounded as if he was just singing. It sounded more like Journey voice wise, but the soulful feeling wasn't there.. But,at the end of the song I was damn impressed..! This is where I think Jeremey took Jeff over.It had the Perry type ending..Jeff's is good, but Jeremey's blew me out of the water..If Jeremey would have done what Jeff did throughout the song and then ended it the way he did,I would really have been blown away..I'm not taking shots at anyone,it just my opinion..I love both singers,I just happen to listen to it on my long drive to my family for Xmas.. Thoughts?

im betting neather of them had much feedback and doubtful there was any producer.. .. both demos that were to never see the light of day..

both are better songwriters/vocalists than this song allows..

I applaud both of them for their efforts on the song...but I think the song just SUCKS! Nothing about that song says Journey to me. Maybe it's just me (and I'm a freak about Journey and look forward to anything they throw out there), but this song is a half-assed written song that they'll never do anything with!

This is of course coming from someone who's OWN songs are ALL half-assed! I just don't like the tune.

Jeff and Jeremey are both extreemly talented singers, but they are NOTHING alike. To me it's like comparing apples to oranges. They're both good at what they do. They also have their own strengths and weaknesses. If they hadn't both played with Journey, I don't think either one would ever be talked about in the same sentence. JMHO.

I think the song sucks to. Cain will write anything for money, just like that song he wrote for the Journey Signature wine. His best days are behind him

This has been discussed several times already. (Search button) I agree JH's version is much better. Jeff just seems better suited to rockers. ;)

Does anyone have the alternate version of "La Raza Del Sol" that was the b-side of the "Don't Stop Believin" single that they would be able to post on you send it?

I had it on a cassette tape years ago, but I haven't known where that tape is for at least 15 years now. From what I recall, I think Neal played a harder Rocking solo on that version than the one thats on the box set?

I believe the vinyl version went straight to the electric guitar solo, where the CD version we have now features an acoustic solo that then goes into the original electric solo.

Not a bad song. With some more work it probably could be a very good one. Sounds like something that would have fit on Arrival, which I thought had a lot of good tunes but too many slow and moderate ones for my taste. Jeremy sounds a bit like he did on his solo tunes, which I really like, even though as he incidated they are not final versions. Is the JSS version on Yousendit as well? (I guess I could like myself right?) Thanks for the link.

Thanks again! JSS does an excellent job too. He has bit more of a ballsy sound, in my opinion, which gives the song a slight edge. Now if you can just find Arlen's version you will have completed the hat-trick! Thanks much.

Both songs arnt bad, both have potential. I like the idea behind the lyrics. Both need alot of work though for them to be good. Needs to be smartened up abit, i will not be upset if it doesnt see the light of day on a Journey album.

You are fucking retarded. Jeremey is cool, but this version of his is not even close to Soto's.

Thanks!

I knew that the vinyl version did not have the acoustic part of the solo, but I thought I recalled there being a longer electric guitar solo on the vinyl version? It's been so many years since I listened to that version that I wasn't sure.

For the record and listen up dweebs....

I am now down with Britain. My old ladies sister's husband is my all time favourite guy. This dude makes bank, is a class act, drinks all kinds of booze, and is cooler than shit. Britain is A OK with RnD. However, you other smelly fucking landlocked toilet states in Europe are NOT ok with me, and I will continue my current stance against you assholes.

RnD likes= Ireland and GB.

RnD hates= All other Euro states(except Seden because there are a lot of hot bitches there and also most of the Vancouver Canuck Offensmen are Swedes.

was this song mainly written just for the va show they did, or was it actually supposed to be new album material?

i see it being a last-second song written just for an event, but if it was for an album, it needed a LOT of work.

Yes. This song was a one off type deal and written for the Virginia debacle, errr, event. Admittedly, Friga appeared to go read his kids 4th grade Pilgrim book, and stole a couple phrases out of it, but who cares? Everyone here should know by now this song was hastily done. I do think Neal sounded like wheezy crap on it, Cains keys were ok, and JSS was without a doubt the best part of it. And yes, I would say JSS sucked python cock if he stunk it up.
