I so wish I was feeling this way. I was so excited to hear new music that showed the level of talent in the band before letting JSS go. The search for that "legacy" sound has left me with the feeling that the creative well has run dry and faith in their own talents has vanished. It seems as though the search for a Perry sound a like is where their energy was spent and sadly their glory days have been lived out.

Me, too. I'm jealous of ScarabGator's enthusiasm. I had it.. They fired it. Twice. :(

Dave,

You're right on here. Augeri did a great job for the band for several years and took the pipe when things went to crap. I remember seeing Augeri in 1998 in Louisville, he fuckin rocked and did a great job. It speaks very well of Augeri.

L8r bro,

Aaron

For the longest time, most of the folks going to Journey shows didn't even realize Perry had been replaced. That speaks pretty well of Augeri, if you ask me.

Oops! I'm sorry. I always thought your name was Frank.

I understand what you're saying...kinda. I guess I just don't agree with it. I wonder how many of the Journey fans that were crazy about SA came aboard after he was named lead singer. Based on my reading at BT, TJF (before the 'B') and elsewhere, I really think many of those fans discovered Journey after SP left the band, and therefore didn't share the same passion that the 'loons' felt. I knew of him, saw him in a show at Nissan Pavilion early in his tenure, and although I was impressed, it wasn't to the degree that he wowed me into following the band. In fact, I didn't "rediscover" Journey again until I heard about tapegate. Then I found this place and have been hooked ever since!!

I think it's tacky to on one hand name your company NOMATA (an indirect slap in the face) and disrespect SP, and on the other hand do everything you can to try to reproduce what SP contributed. They did this with SA, not so much with JSS (had many of us convinced that they were trying to honor the past while looking to the future), and unbelievably so now with AP. They belittle his contribution all the while trying to emulate it, and I'm just not okay with that.

I don't believe they will have the success with AP that they (and some here) are hoping for. It's just too creepy at this point. In one sense, I hate that they are using AP in this manner, and I do recognize that this is an opportunity of a lifetime for him and don't begrudge him one tiny bit in going for it. In the other, I hope they fall flat on their faces for all the shit that they've pulled. It's a shame, because I really like Ross (thought he was great when I met him at a party) and Deen and feel like they're totally caught between the perverbial rock & hard place.

It all just sucks!

AND he was so nervous he wasn't sleeping AND they gave him no advance info on the songs AND he was HOARSE from a "cold" when they talked to him.

Geeze, sounds like they aren't treating Arnel any better.

They don't want him for writing, they want him for singing. And the day he can't will be the day Neal hits You Tube.

Very sad.

Someone in the other thread called it the "journey sweatshop"
"In Journey, all the hit songs we had were based around Steve Perry's vocals."

OS, of course I dont see SP this way. He is the man. If I ever met him I would probably pass out. It would be a dream come true if somehow he and Journey could overcome the issues and reunite. Thank you for clearing that up. :D

I just read your response to Donna though and have to disagree with you. You said:

ScarabGator wrote:when SP first left and you heard Augeri was coming in werent you skeptical? But he did an admirable job and won over most of the fan base

I never thought he did an admirable job and he didn't do what most of the fanbase called an admirable job. He did what most of the people who were allowed to post at BT called an admirable job. If most of the fanbase had called it an admirable job most of the people at the concerts would have known who he was and maybe they would have wanted to hear something off Arrival.

Augeri was their first failure and Arnel will be their second. JSS was the only chance they had to be something besides just another pathetic nostalgia act.

Your right, I did say that but I never said Augeri could ever measure up to Steve Perry, at least I dont think I did. What I said was SA did an admirable job carrying on the Journey name, not a better job though. I actually like Arrival and believe it or not I have friends that were not big fans before hanging out with me that heard Arrival and think it is better than ROR or TBF, I mean they love it. When we are hanging out at the pool first thing they say is "put on higher place.." I have been a Journey fan since Lovin, Touchin, Squeezing hit the air waves, circa late 70's and have been to a couple of shows including the Frontiers tour in 1983 in Miami at the Orange Bowl. I am a die hard, not a casual fan. I believe my Journey cassettes got me through a lot of study nights at college. I am as passionate about them as anyone on this board. But sticking with them only because of SP makes you a SP fan, and thats not my only love with them. I love the Rollie tunes, Augeri tunes, watching Soto on you tube, hell I even got off on watching fleischman do "Anytime". I am a Journey fan, period. There will never be another Steve Perry, thats for sure but if they can carry on with the next best thing then I will ride along with them. Arnel is the vocalist now so now I will support this era.

Tim  ,

I think this is what bothers some people. Well, me anyway...

There are folks out there that allow Journey to behave any way they want, without regard for the fans. Discarding people like yesterday's trash, people they supposedly care about, in such a careless manner. Wasn't SA Friga's "brother"? Didn't Neal and Jeff have a tight bond from previous work together? Blindly following them through whatever they do is not something that I can agree with. I know the whole "it's a business" argument, and I agree with it to some extent. However, there are ethical business practices, and there are unethical business practices. I happen to believe they abide by the latter. As such, I cannot and will not support this era. It's not Arnel's fault. But it is my reality.

As to those that might ask why I'm still here... I'm here cause I want to be. I still enjoy talking about Journey-past, even though I have no desire for Journey-present.

you are also here because you've made a lot of friends on here and I hope I am one of them. It was very wrong the way Augeri and Soto were let go, especially the way Soto heard about it. I guess I just prefer to turn a blind eye towards that, or try to ignore it. The music makes me happy and I feel like when I stop supporting them then a huge part of my life is over, one that carried me from pre-teen years thru adult times and got me thru a lot of tough times. Maybe that is the bigger issue for me. Anyway you cant fault Arnel for these things and he is just following a dream so I have to be open minded with the future.

Agreed 100%. Augeri was more than adequate. He kept those fuckers alive in a business that if you haven't noticed, pays pretty well.

I am half cocked to share some voicemails I have from a couple Journey members..That would open some eyes here. Red13 and TNC know what I am talking about.
