Joe Vana would be a much better sourse than me. But I know that in the mid to late 80's Frankie said that he used Marshall amps, Ernie Ball strings gauge .009 to.042. and a ProCo Rat pedal. Sullivan said that at the beginning of his career he prefered Les Paul's, but by the mid 80's he prefered Fender Strats. His favorite guitar at that point was a 1958 Fender Strat.

In recent years he's been playing a lot of Anderson guitars.

From the pictures I saw in the past years,

From 1977 to 1983: He used mostly Gibson Les Paul Standard, Classic and Custom (his Black Beauty) and Strat occasionnaly.
From 1983 to 1987: He used mostly Stratocaster (his old 1958 Sunburst Strat, his white one with the tremolo for High On You live performance and Burning Heart video) and Gibson Les Paul (the Iced Tea finish one from the 1985 tour... he lost it afterward), A blonde Telecaster (from the 1985 tour)
From 1987 to 1989: He used mostly Stratocaster (his old 1958 Sunburst Strat), anotther Iced Tea Gibson (after the one he lost), The Blonde Telecaster
From 1993: He uses mostly Stratocasters (a black one, a 1958 Sunburst Strat), a few times his blonde Telecaster, gibson les pauls (a lot of models), a EDS 1275 doubleneck, and some Andersons guitars.

So He's really a Fender Strat, Tele, Gibson Les Paul and Doubleneck guy :)

I'm not sure about the acoutic guitars he used...

I VERY curiious about the pedals he used to create the survivor sound... Pro Co Rat?, Boss DS-1?,....

In the Vital Signs days he said he was only using a ProCo Rat distortion pedal, and no other effects.

I think in the early days of Survivor he might have been using Washburn acoustics, but don't quote me on that.

He used washburns for a while....but martins are his main acoustic axe....

Hey Joe,
I asked it in another post;

"Brownie" (Fender Stratocaster) was the guitar for Eric Clapton in the recording of his anthem "Layla".
"Lucille" was for BB King.
"#1" was for SRV

Frankie once told me that "Firewood" was the nickname given by Jim Peterik to the guitar used on the recording of the "Eye Of The Tiger" song album version.

Joe, Can you get info from Frankie next time you see him about that guitar ?

If he still has it, still plays with it,...
By the way.. "Firewood" is a Gibson Les Paul.

I don't know the year, the finish of the guitar and if Frank still has it or/and use it.

I don't know what kind of guitar was used for the palm mute part of tiger..
