People could've said the same shit when Perry was the third singer in what....5 years? That's all semantics. Let the music be your deciding factor not some trivial bullshit excuse conjured up by people with an axe to grind or those with some vendetta against the band because they feel wronged. Poppycock!!! There was "way too much Filipino stuff" because it was more or less a "going away/send off" party for the guy. And out of respect for his country and people he calls fellow countrymen he got sort of patriotic. Had this been an interview with the L.A. Times you would have a point. But it wasn't. Some of you fuckers seem to search for stuff to bitch about, and that is much sadder than a dude doing a simple interview.

People 25 years ago didn't have access to information that we have now, and a lot of it is information we really don't need. Like I said in another thread yesterday, I was a much happier fan before I started message boarding. That 'ignorance is bliss' cliché works here. But still, I can't leave this place. I'm fuckin hooked. :?

That's why I labeled it the "Brotherhood of the Traveling Circus". The show must go on.

Exactly, I was starting to come around to maybe giving it a shot and then I hear this interview and it pisses me off all over again. If the guy would just sing, then we have the information to make an informed decision. Until that happens, none of this BS is going to go away.

Quite frankly (and I'm a loon), I wouldn't want to see Steve Perry as the lead singer of, say, Van Halen or another AR rock band either. But I would take him a la carte. My point is Steve Perry being the third replacement singer of another famous rock band wouldn't be good either.

The huge difference is that Perry is the only singer to have sold more than 200,000 albums with Journey. That ends all the arguments. If Journey produces a gold album (500k) with Arnel, then we will something new to debate about. Until then, it's all just pure hype.

No, it makes it more enjoyable for the reader when I agree with you. When I put out good arguments like the one above, I'm sure it's not very enjoyable to try to come up with a comeback. But hey, that's what we're here for right? If Perry were still singing for Journey and all was well, this forum would be as dead as the Bon Jovi forum.

I'm not Filipino, but am Asian, and I think all this talk about national pride is so stupid. Nothing against Arnel, I still would feel the same way if they hired a Chinese that sings like SP. Seems it's not just American Journey fans making a big deal about a "foreigner" singing with Journey. They're doing enough over there to fan the flames, too. So far, I don't think Arnel is doing himself any favors by what he says in his interviews.

Getting close to judgment day. It's put up or shut up at this point.

I understand that the Filipinos have a reason to rejoice about Arnel getting the gig with Journey. With their poor economy, there is not much to rejoice about. However, they need to realize that Perry is like a god in the USA. When Arnel's fans flood all the Internet forums and say that Arnel is better than Perry, they are just asking for an argument. It would be no different if a USA singer took over for a Filipino icon and Americans flooded the Philippines with boasts of this new singer being better than their patriarch. Then when people debate what they are saying about Arnel, they call it racism.

Oh well... par for the course I guess. It was bad enough when Augeri took over for Perry and people argued about that for years. Now the race card gets placed in the deck, and it's a whole new reason for debate.

It is the Manila Bulletin that this article is from right? Hence the nationalism...Guys, you should see the stuff for Boxer Manny Pacquiao. If you've ever watched a fight on PPV, you'll see it in droves.

I just wanted to clarify that I never said Arnel is better than Steve Perry, see sig below. I am of the opinion though who felt he sings better than Jeremey, ALTHOUGH...Jeremey would have been a fine choice and would receive more praise than flack even if he too sounds like Steve Perry. That ain't a knock though, those Frontiers shows on the web sound great!!!

I for one am glad that the US Tour starts 4th of July in America, what better day than that.

GOOD JOURNEY...Y'all be cool.

Exactly. Was this for a Filipino press piece? I thought it was. If it's for a Filipino press piece, then it makes sense that, OF COURSE he'd mention it. Just like when Hilary's running for president- "possible first WOMAN president" or Obama "Possible first BLACK president". Arnel's the first Asian to get a chance to do something like this with an American musical staple of a band- or at least one this popular. I would imagine that this is a VERY big deal to Filipinos. Makes sense to me. As far as the "Filipino cause" I have no idea what that's about, but I would THINK that it means pride in one's country and heritage.

Then those that call Americans 'racist' for wanting to keep Journey - an American rock band - American should just STFU then, right? A little double standard there, wouldn't you agree? (not saying you are one of those, bry) Some people (*cough, cough Frye*) seem to think the members of Journey are comparable to the freakin UN and therefore should have all colors of the rainbow represented, because "that's what America stands for". It's bullshit arguments like that that piss me off and turn me against the whole damned thing.

I understand your argument about Hilary and Obama, and agree with it. And just like them, there is a hypocrisy there. The "I can use it to my advantage, but if anyone flips it on me, it's prejudicial and wrong" crap just makes me sick.

I come back because I still enjoy the music and watching Neal Schon play guitar is worth the price of admission. That's what it's all about for me...the music and the memories. I have great concert memories with Augeri and I hope to have a few with this incarnation. They'll have the chance to earn my support.

It's what posters here post from Youtube and other sources. Plus the fact that there are some out there that have christened Arnel Pineda, "The Steve Perry of The Philippines," It's not self-proclaimed but many seem to think it is.

WIth regards to Journey being an All-American Rock band, I was cool with that but at the same time, if they found a British or Australian singer, that would be just as okay as a Filipino. As long as the lead singer can wail and I feel emotional content, then I'm cool with that too. Shouldn't that be the guide like everyone says? It's the music that matters. How much it matters will be defined by you.

It has not a thing to so with his being filipino. I work with alot of filipino nurses and they are very nice people and are actually my friends.
I think after all the bs and the lies and deciet and the way they treated SA and JSS alot of people
myself included have lost alot of faith in them. It is too bad as I still think Jon Cain is a talented songwriter and musician. It is too bad that this talent is being used to decieve and lie to the fans and treat their singers like crap.
