Again, seriously, I do like some of Bryan Adams songs. But another member made a good point when they told me that Bryan Adams is more of a chick band, i.e. mostly chicks are into his music. If Bryan Adams were a movie he'd be a chick flick.

He does have some good songs, but most of his stuff is nothing to get excited about.

my my, we've got quite a debate going on here. I voted for Bryan Adams because of all his successes as detailed, and I have his GH. I'm not that familiar with Survivor, only heard a few of their songs on the radio, and primarily digs regarding them being a wannabe Journey, and JJ being a poor man's SP.

Regardless on the debate at hand there is no way in hell that Jimi Jamison is a poor man's Steve Perry. Completely different.

Finalflight, I haven't heard enough of Jimi to form an opinion either way. This is what I have read from other people. Granted, they were probably Journey/SP fans. Can you give me some examples as to how they are different?

i'll tell ya how i think they are different.

survivor fans although extremely devoted and forever loyal tend to err on the side of caution as far as getting their hopes up for any new music since they took so long for their latest effort.although time has healed many wounds there tends to be some sort of ligering distrust between former members.

journey fans are a very special breed indeed.most devotees while certainly judgemental are certainly understanding of any hiatus or break that members or former member might take.while there can be long gaps in quality product that fault certainly can't be laid at the feet of all personnel involved only certain members although the show does roll on but at a different aspect.

Jimi Jamison is second to none as a lead vocalist.
And for the record Steve Perry is my second favorite singer of all time.

Steve Perry in his prime had a higher range than Jimi Jamison, but that's the only thing he had over Jamison.

Perry himself thought that Jamison was ripping him off in the 1980s - "That guy's got no class", I think he said - but I always thought this was a bit unfair. There are some similiarities but Jamison's style is a lot more direct and unfussy. There's no warbling or going off the scale with Jamison. I guess he's a bit more 'rock' and less 'R n B'. He's not as extraordinary as Perry but in terms of straightforward AOR singing Jamison is the best vocalist in the entire field, I reckon...well, him or Lou Gramm.

What are you talking about? Survivor have been cranking out the albums as of late. In 1988 they released "Too Hot to Sleep," and in 2006 they released "Reach." If that's not a band keeping busy then I don't know what is?

Obviously Survivor have been pissing off the fans with how few albums there have been since 1988. But there still one of the great Rock bands of all time.

I agree that Survivor tended to play it too safe but the whole Axel/Jamison debate is ridiculous. Do you really think Axel could sing on a Survivor album and make it work? Not a chance. It would sound horrible.

Well, here's how I've always put it. Steve Perry had the most amazing voice, and Jamison has the best voice. What I mean by that is that Perry could hit those unbelievable notes and sound great doing it, and there are very few who could have ever come close to hitting those notes while still sounding like a man singing. But Jimi Jamison has the best sounding voice in the history of Rock music. As much soul as Perry has, and he has tons of it, Jamison has even better soul.

My top 3 favorite singers are...

#1 Jimi Jamison
#2 Steve Perry
#3 Lou Gramm

Jamison is brilliant to be sure but take him out of a narrow AOR context and put him next to the all-time greats - Elvis, Mercury, Franklin etc - he starts to seem a bit limited I reckon. Perry - on the other hand - sounds extraordinary no matter who you compare him to.

As for the poll...I voted for Survivor. And despite what Deano's narcissism is telling him...it wasn't to spite him. To my ears there's something a bit empty about Bryan Adams' music. Loads of big gestures, very little authentic feeling. Rock music for people who don't like rock music.

Jimi Jamison was the lead vocalist in a heavy metal band called "Cobra" just before he joined Survivor.
Jamison can do amazing impersonations (I'm talking about singing) of Elvis and Jim morrison.
Jamison was also in a southern Rock band called "Target" in the 1970's.
And Deep Purple asked him to be their lead singer back in the early 90's.
And he has sang backing vocals for a few heavy metal bands.

Jamison was at one time the first choice to play Jim Morrison in The Doors movie, but the film got delayed, and then when it was finally maid they went with Val Kilmer. But seriously, Jamison was the original first choice.

Jamison is actually quite versatile as a singer.

While I liked a lot of what BA did..I never considered him to be a great singer. In his prime..Jimi was much better.

The dental hygienist at my dentists office is a big Bryan Adams fan, she's a 50 year old soccer mom with 3 daughters.

If someone likes Bryan Adams music that's cool, I like some of his songs. But when I saw him in concert in the early 90's it had the same excitment level that the Billy Joel concert had that I went to in the mid 90's. Their both good performers with a bunch of good songs, but they aren't in the same league as Journey, Survivor, Foreigner etc, etc.

 I actually got talked into seeing Survivor live in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre in 1986. I was blown away. His voice was amazing that night. Granted..that's a great place to see a concert..but he sounded amazing..and I am picky on the lead singer actually being able to sing and carry a note. As far as putting a concert on the top of my list where I remember being impressed with a lead singer..that would be one of them.

Jimi Jamison STILL sounds damn good! He may not sound quite as good as he did in the 1980's, but he's not far off from sounding that good. Plus, let's not forget he's in his mid 50's or so, so of course he's going to have lost at least a little bit for that reason alone.

Dave Bickler is a damn good singer too. He's very underrated.
