I just play my regular turntable through my stereo..and while it's playing I have the stereo hooked up to my computer..and the computer is recording. I just use a line in recording through audiograbber..which is free. I can record in .wav , I never do anything mp3. Lose quality.

They're pretty decent......just starting out on this and it IS way cool...but maddening.

Maybe I need to invest in a cleaner or something.

We used to tape a nickel on top of the stylus and the extra weight would help it keep from skipping. We were a bunch of jury riggin fuckers though.

 Yeah...and remember when the knob would eventually break off on the TV? At first we would tape the knob to hold it together...then when the plastic was totally rounded off and that didn't work anymore we would use pliers to turn the stem...worked until all the metal was eventually shredded and was down to a nub that could no longer be reached.

I certainly do. Had the pliers stationed right on top of the tv. I was one of those kids that when the tv repair man would come over, I'd be watching everything he did. I always wanted to know how everything worked. I bet he was thinking I wish this damn kid would leave me the hell alone. I'd ask a million questions.

That same TV,.. before cable, we stuck a clothes hanger in where the antenna had been when we broke it off trying to turn it so many ways to get reception. We would use different clothes hangers because some had better pickup then others. Then when one wouldn't work we would add to it....and then the foil came into play. I swear our rec room looked like we were trying to phone home...and sometimes I think we did manage to make contact with the mother ship!

We just clamped on some vice grips so you didn't have to set them on top of the tv. Kinda lazy I guess. Pretty stylish too.

I was a dance DJ and we actually had one penny, two penny and three penny records, depending on how bad they skipped. Try balancing pennies in the heat of a dance...while loaded! Needless to say, the advent of CDs were a godsend...plus we didn't have to haul around 20 boxes of 45s.

We just clamped on some vice grips so you didn't have to set them on top of the tv. Kinda lazy I guess. Pretty stylish too.

The good old days. Those tv's put off some heat in those days.
