That may be the first statement you've made that I agree with you on. As a 58 yr old woman whose 58 yr old husband's employer recently went to China I know first hand how hard it is.
We may not agree on which programs are worthless, but at least I see a little bit of a heart in that post.
BINGO!!! That's the point. There are so many people abusing the system..when there are so many who REALLY need the help and either don't get or are denied. That's when it tickes me off.
Again..everyday at my job..I witness customers who are abusing the system..and yet I work with people who could really use the help..but don't get for one reason or another.
There are many reasons why government help is a great thing. Sadly..I have not been around as many good as bad. I have only been able to make my judgements from what I have seen. Again..I think that's where most of or thoughts and feelings about things come from..our own experiences.
Of course our opinions on things come from our personal experiences. That's all we have to form our opinions on. I've seen both sides of this issue in action but what worries me is that too many people are willing to throw out the baby with the bath water. They want to eliminate all government assistance to all people because too many have abused the system.
In some respects I see this problem the same way I see the illegal immigration problem.
They(whoever the fuck they are, probably media) say it would be impossible to find and deport all the illegal immigrants, and they also say it would be impossible to find and penalize all of the recipients of fraudulent welfare funds.
That's bullshit. They may not be able to find and deal with them all at one time, but they can sure as hell be keeping a directed and alert eye out for them and deal with them as the find them. I can't even say how many times I've heard stories of people in positions of authority finding, knowing, or even hiring people who are here illegally and choosing to look the other way. I know from personal experience that there are people in the welfare system in Virginia that have been told of abuses and look the other way because it would cause racially related disruptions to address the issue. (I'm not going to cite sources on that though)
We have HUGE problems in this country, but giving tax cuts to the well to do, sending jobs overseas, going into a war over intentionally fraudulent intelligence information, and giving amnesty to illegal aliens isn't going to solve them.

I have this game won. I don't care to convert 5 neo-cons over. I got the Congress and am soon to get the White House. After that, I could care less what these neo-cons say. They will have to bitch and complain to someone else, cus I ain't listening.

Just a couple weeks ago that rod broke and they had to replace it with a thicker rod. He's pushing 60 and can't get hired here. :::raising hand:::: Me personally, having boys and a girlie... I'm all for the condoms AND putting all these little girlies on the depo shot at the first hint of hormones. Panther wrote:The Sushi Hunter wrote:Barb wrote:My family won't benefit from this, but I'm glad some who don't even pay taxes are getting a $300 check. Whatever. The tax system in this country is fucking ridiculous.
Where are you getting your information Barb? Even the article on this thread states people who paid taxes (fourth paragraph down) are the ones who are entitled to it. I know the last time this type of tax benefit happened all the people on welfare and government assist that paid no taxes at all were hella pissed off because they weren't getting any of it. So some of these people were on the news arguing that they should also be entitled to this tax bonus because they paid taxes every time they bought something. However the money they were using to pay for shit, they got through welfare and government assistance. The stipulation is the money had to have been earned where it was subjected to taxing in the first place. I'm glad to get some extra money back as is everyone else who paid taxes throughout the year. Overlooking that little technicality I know doesn't jive with your point of view and opinion on this tax bonus, tax system, and country. But the deal is in black and white, I don't know how more clear it could be written for you to understand.
Back up the boat there buddy boy..... I bitched LOUDLY about that one. I don't get my funds through welfare or any other gov't assistance program. I still didn't get that neat little check others got, that year. Here's the deal with the po folk, if you care to look around you. These gov't peeps want to "stimulate" the economy. Is pumping the banks, the S&P, the fortune 500, etc., REALLY stimulating the economy? From the sounds of it, they want more purchasing going on. Through that purchasing, the businesses can then expand, hire more, etc..., no? THAT is stimulating the economy. Now, back to the po folk. I'll dig up a couple of links if need be, but the purchasing power in these here US of A states lies almost solely on the backs of those po folks everyone bitches about. They are the ones that will run out (with these new found "free" funds, whether that be this little check or that EIC check) and buy up Wally World, Best Buy, the nail salon, franchise diners, etc. They will NOT put it into an investment account to sit for X amount of years until retirement, nor sock it away for a rainy day. Sure... Family Z may put it into upgrades to the ol casa, but that benefits them, NOT the economy.
From where I sit, it's a grab at votes... It helped the last time, it'll help this time. Sad thing is, while they are playing god with the pennies for the po folk, they are sitting nicely with their salaries, benefits and health care taken care of basically, for the rest of their life. They aren't concerned with the "people," they are merely concerned with staying where they are.. if they can get enough people blindly following this line of thought they are throwing out there, their position is secure.... til the next go round.
They need to show some real balls for a change and stop spending for their own damned pet projects that benefit so very few and address the issue head on.

Hubby and I have been talking to our Son's about sex, drugs and the dangers that lay

I never wanted my kids to feel as scared as I did.

It's a funny memory now but I was scared stupidly then.
I have not the first clue if all Hubby and I's chit chats with our boys will do much good
but I'm sure that silence on these matters won't help.

All the more reason for something like the Fair Tax. You get your entire pay. No taxes taken out and then YOU decide how much you pay in taxes when you WILLINGLY spend money on goods and services.
lights1961 wrote:WASHINGTON - Democratic and Republican congressional leaders completed a deal Thursday with the White House on an economic stimulus package that would give most tax filers refunds of $600 to $1,200, and more if they have children.
Individuals who pay income taxes would get up to $600, working couples $1,200 and those couples with children an additional $300 per child under the deal. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.
Pelosi, D-Calif., agreed to drop increases in food stamp and unemployment benefits during a Wednesday meeting in exchange for gaining rebates of at least $300 for almost everyone earning a paycheck, including low-income earners who make too little to pay income taxes.

I'm ALL FOR the Fair Tax, or Flat Tax, either one... But I fear it will never happen. Stuff like that never happens... Too many people would lose power over it, so I think of it as nothing beyond an election year gimmick that gets trotted out every few years.
