Generations is not that bad of an album. Not sure why people dog it SO much. You're a little overboard on your hatred of it in my opinion. It's the "whipping boy" album for a lot of people here. Granted, Cain and Vallory's vocal tracks stink (vocally), but the rest are decent, even Neal's track is cool. I liked the Schon and Hammer version too, but not as much as the newer version. Perry's vocals in that song were annoying. I think that Deen does a better job. Jesus, Infinity had "Can Do" on it and one bad track does not a shitty album make (that should've been called "Doo Doo"). My gripe with Generations is the production. The sound, especially the drums, is really thin to me. The songs themselves aren't that bad. I've heard a lot worse albums.
I don't have a problem with "Believe" either and I know pretty much everyone here hates that track. I like the sound of it, the sentiment, etc. It's certainly a cooler track than "Castles Burning" which is nauseatingly long, also better than "Back Talk". "Butterfly" same deal. It's a different track for the band. A different direction, but no worse than "Sand Castles" and certainly better than "Trial By Fire", "Just the Rain" and "Baby I'm Leaving You".
Having defended that, the album has some great work on it:
Faith in the Heartland
Place In Your Heart
Better Life
Knowing that You Love Me- The BEST Journey ballad since Open Arms. Great song!
Out of Harms Way
Better Together
Never Too Late
These are all great songs in my opinion.
I think Generations blows Trial By Fire away.
