If he's 75% of what he was 2 years ago that team is going to be a motherfucker in the playoffs.

This trade might help them out for this year but Shawn Marion is one of the best overall players in the entire league. At this point, there is really no one category other than blocked shots that Shaq outperforms Marion in.

In my opinion, though, if Shaq lost about 50-60 pounds, he'd be a much better player.

Phoenix is a much better team than they were 72 hours ago. Shaq brings them an inside force, championship experience, and his attitude. This was a great trade for both teams. Miami has a nucleus to build around now and Phoenix has a shot at a title...something they did NOT have 72 hours ago. Phoenix traded an immense talent for the shot at winning a title this year. Shaq has this year and probably next year left in the tank.

I'm in Arizona and a Suns fan. When the news came down, I think most of us were in disbelief. Shaq is old, and Shawn Marion was just so crucial to the Suns' run and fun offense. I don't know if the Suns are a better team now, but Marion would've been gone at the end of the year, and they got rid of Marcus Banks' bad contract too. Bottom line: Phoenix knows that their window for winning a championship with Steve Nash is closing rapidly, and they are going to need a stronger defensive and rebounding presence to get to the finals. Shaq may be a question mark, but if he is healthy, his upside is remarkable.

I'm liking the deal more and more. At the very least, this should be fun to watch.

I don't think Shaq's weight is the problem that many make it out to be. The reality is that the guy has 12% bodyfat at 320lbs (these were the numbers from the physical he took with Phoenix). While 12% bodyfat isn't bodybuilder low, it's certainly not very high for a guy who is over 300lbs! I think Shaq's bigger issue is that he'll be 36 in 2 weeks, and age has finally caught up with him. As many athletes do (Look no further than Randy Moss), he may find a new sense of motivation by being on a team that doesn't suck, like Miami does! He may have a little left in the tank, but it's not much, so we shall see.

As many here in Miami have said, "don't let the door hit you in the ass"

He has become old and bloated - not just body weight - it is all the cash from his real estate development lining his pockets - the man cannot run fast carrying that much.

He hasn't played well in a while - has been opting to kind of hang out under the net.
and he hasn't played at all recently -

Maimi loved him, turned out for him, supported him - and he made lots and lots of money from it.

Not for me!!

"Today, the signing of Dion Phaneuf is seen in the Calgary Flames dressing room as a positive.

It's a sign the organization is committed to winning for years to come, having locked up the star defenceman along with fellow rearguard Robyn Regehr, goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff and captain Jarome Iginla to lucrative long-term deals. "

Well, if you don't count NASCAR (and some don't), sports are over for me until Notre Dame starts pre-season football. The Cleveland Browns, too.

I'm in heaven with college ball on Saturday, NFL and NASCAR on Sunday - damn! I'm lost until the Daytona 500 on the 17th.....

I want whatever you are getting high with. Seriously, I love the positivism, but you have gone way over the top lately.

First off, the NBA sucks, and there is no passion at all. It's all about "Me me me." These guys are fucking selfish criminals, and 80% of the criminals on the disabled list, are there because they have a hang nail.

Regarding the big blob of chocolate shit Shaq; this guy is out of shape, unmotivated and hardly any upside left. Sure, he will be a presence inside, but, uh let's see, he is on the, ding ding ding; Disabled list.

Piece of shit attitude, fat blob and unmotivated.

Phoenix fucked up.

I think he might park under his own key like the Admiral did in the 2005 playoff. (his last season--2005 right??) he just stood there and won't even cross half court. no wonder the SPURS lost at home in game 2 that series. (yea, of course I was at the playoff game they lost to Dallas that year. sheesh)

as for being there for blocking and that's enough, Shaq can block a frickin train so he may come in handy after all.

but Ginobli and Parker are so fast they can get under and around him. Bowen can hit without ever getting close to him.

i dunno. but it's gonna be fun!!! thanks for the thoughts.

i know. I will. NBA is just convenient right now. the Texas A&M- Corpus Christi Islanders are NCAA divsion 2 i think. they aren't horrible. its a fairly new program.

where did Bobby Knight go? did he leave for health?? what a nut. my yongest daughter's high school coach was from West Texas and coached like Knight. she threw mostly clip boards and just kicked the chairs. hehe. and so my daughter learned well and would cuss out the refs and insult their families and heritage. it was ugly but highly entertainging.   i have video......

does the nhl have feeder teams? what are the Corpus Christi Ice Rayz? who do they feed to? Stars? I'm going!! are you proud?? hehe. it is a big benefit game. we went to every game when they first started here, um.. maybe 5-6 years ago.

Knight has no health issues (certainly none that were made public). I think it's really as simple as Texas Tech is a pretty mediocre team, and he wanted to give his kid the inside track at a head coaching job. He already hasn't ruled out coaching again, when asked by ESPN. He made it pretty clear that it would have to be a top program (which isn't likely, given Knight's propensity for bullying his players) for him to come back to coaching. The guy is one of the all-time jackasses in coaching, but at the same time, I also think he's one of the best college basketball coaches to ever walk the sidelines. I know it sounds like a contradiction, but if you look at the guy's record, it's pretty impressive. When you factor into the equation that he didn't coach that many great players (Isaiah Thomas is the only one I can even think of), it tells me the guy knew how to coach basketball. I also think something that's important to remember about Knight, and give him loads of credit for, is the fact that he actually graduated his players, which doesn't happen a lot in college basketball circles! It still doesn't change the fact that I think the guy is a jackass, and I would never allow my son to play for him!

Yeah, I've never been in the "Shaq's too fat" crowd but it would certainly help him to take off some weight and trim up a little. He's always had problems, especially with his feet and I'm sure that would help.

Debbie, what the Hell you mean the "NBA is convenient?" As in close aka San Antonio? You could go to Dallas and see the Stars. Real good team. Hell, I would rather drive to Dallas and watch a Dallas game than fly to Florida to see Gary. Jesus Christ already

How did the Wings lose to the Queens last night? Queens have Detroit's number for some reason.

As far as the Wings, they had an 8 game winning streak. Bound to lose sometime. I'm just hoping they'll be able to land Rob Blake in a trade before the deadline. :D

Get this, Chris Chelios is still playing for the Wings. Dude just turned 46 and still going strong, no sign of slowing down.

Okay...Now that is ASTONISHING! As I said, I really don't pay much attention to the NHL (Although I was a RABID hockey fan growing up). I had no idea Chelios was still around. Dude was a great player back in the day with Montreal! And to think that I thought Raymond Bourque played forever!
