iMac 24" inch is a sweet machine. I know a few peeps that have switched recently and they picked that exact model as well.

I switched to Mac 5 years ago and have never looked back.

There's a guy here at work that is a Mac freak and you can actually see a rise in his fuckin' pants when I mention this model.  I'm leaning toward buying it.

Very scary indeed. :D

Ask him about bootcamp. You can move all your PC software onto your mac and have the best of both worlds. (assuming your hard drive is large enough to hold everything)

I have a dual boot of Vista,XP on my home PC..I use it for everything, especially games.. MAC's are good starter computers..Kind of like training wheels on a bike.. It lacks software, good luck with games..Unless your doing cad or visual stuff,it doesn't matter..A guy that says, once you go mac you don't go back isn't playing any games on it..It will not be as fast as a PC.. Not just the processor, but mac stuff is behind PC's when it comes to hardware! Everything for a mac comes out 6 months to a yr after a pc..But if someone who just wants it to work and browse the internet,I suppose it would be fine..They are just overrated and way too expensive..PS..I have never had a problem with Vista, plus service pack 1 comes out this month..I used to have to reformat my hard drive twice a yr because it would get slow with xp..With Vista,I have not had to touch it..Everything has worked..

Wow, i just got vista and its a pain in the ass its slow as hell ,and i got 3gigs of ram ,it doesnt read alot of stuff at times (its a dell) wont even burn dvds, cant seem to read the dvdrs and now i barely can get on any site without getting some bug where i get 10 sites clicking to ads all over the place.

I'm probably going to have to reformat but have never done that before, also it seems theres 63 gigs of my harddrive used and i havent downloaded more than 5 ,could that actually be all dell stuff? 1 big PIA

Dell loads a ton of useless crap on their machines. They used to make good machines but they've gone in the tank since they started marketing/selling to home users.

Yes,its Dell and its bloatware.. It shouldn't be a pain in the ass or slow.. None of my friends have problems.. Its not Vista either..There is a conflict someone..Do you have a virus or spyware checker.. Try taking out a stick of ram also..When you upgrade ram,you should do it in 2 gig increments..Or the install of Vista got messed up..Do this..Pull a stick of ram out,reformat..So everything is clean, and then reinstall Vista..Better yet,if you can do it with one gig of ram(one stick) that would be even better..I've done this for 20 yrs..I doubt its Vista..I think its the ram..

Good to see people weigh in on this.

I'm about ready to make the jump to mac....I'm through with Microsuck.

I've had 2-3 Windows Update related issues with them this week and in all cases, they basically told me to go fuck myself unless I paid up 60 dollars per incident.

Actually thats how i got the machine, it came with 3gigs its an AMD 5600 with vista premium, i went out and got webroot antivirus/spyware and put it on after i noticed some issues and it showed a bunch of spyware and a couple trojans so i quaranteened them but it seems eveytime i run that program more of the same shows up--1 thing i notice regularly is i will type something and it will regularly miss letters that i am sure i typed, i also get a message about virtual memory and that it has to close down quite often.

If you know how to reformat your hard drive and reload vista ,do it..Get rid of webroot! Use Norton internet security.. I use it on all my computers at work..Zero problems..Do not use Mcafee!! Leave 1 stick of ram in there also..That would be 1 gig..Alot of times 2 gigs screws up installs..There is too much crap on your computer, especially from Dell..Trust me..if you reformat, reinstall Vista and put norton on your computer..You will have no problems..I would just use 2 gigs of ram also..You could also use Firefox for the internet instead of internet explorer.. Firefox is safer and nicer to use..

I use XP and doubt I will ever go to the over-bloated Vista. I've heard too many headaches. If I were going to buy a PC for general home use, I'd get a Mac in a minute. But since I'm somewhat of a gamer and burn a lot of DVD's, I'll stick with building my own pc's. That way you get exactly what you want.

As for the antivirus mentioned earlier, there's no need to buy one when you can get a great one free. www.avast.com It's got a light footprint and is one of the best I've used.

Macs AND Windows computers are ALL PCs. All PC means is Personal Computer.

Years ago, IBM coined the term 'PC'...based on their proprietary architecture. Apple never adopted the term in a generic way. They stayed away from it. Therefore, an industry delineation was made. All home computers today might be personal, but back in the 70s, they were called micro-computers...until the 80s when IBM began using PC.

So yeah, generically, they are all 'personal computers', but the term PC used to mean IBM, or at least IBM architecture-based, which is what all the big sellers chose (Packard Bell, Gateway, Compaq, NEC, etc.) You'll find that most consumers tend to say PC anyway, but true Apple-ites won't.

I have Vista,I have no problems, neither do my friends..I was also told not to by an iphone because of problems..Guess what,I didn't listen to them either and I love my iphone.. Vista came with his computer, unless he buys XP he has to use it..He will be fine..Every operating system has their problems when they 1st come out..I hate to break the news to you ,even the new Apple Leopard is having issues and people are bitching, just look on their forums..The antivirus program you mentioned, does it do spyware, adware, internet security, protect your identity ect..I doubt it does for free.. He may not need hard core internet protection anyhow..Microsoft has a new internet antivirus program called ONE..I'm trying out for 90 days free..You can too..So far so good..Don't buy into anything you read..Vista is not bloatware..

I'm not sure what I think about Vista yet. The one thing I do know is that this crazy thing is ALWAYS working on something (even now, it is just a chuggin away). Makes for some slow times on the net I tell ya. I have the 1G of RAM and on certain things, it is a might bit.... slow. I hate the fact that NONE of my previous programs will work with Vista (I refuse to put out all that change again on Word, etc...), so I'm stuck running the two systems (this one for the net and fun and the other one - Win95 - for document related stuff). I'm probably one of the reasons Dell switched to allowing new buyers to choose their OS. When they introduced Vista, that was the only thing you could get on most of their systems - without having to pay an arm and a leg. After bombarding them with written and emailed nasty grams... they finally refunded me a whoppin c-note.
Me.... I'm thinking of downgrading to the XP (hell, if that 95 would run some of the stuff I have now, I'd go back to that. Most stable OS they put out to date.).

Look at this..you guys are getting free tech support..LOL Let me start with this..Your hard drive is constantly swapping because #1 you don't have enough memory..Vista really takes 2 gigs not 1..Don't believe the requirements on the box,its always higher..All of the operating systems in the past had the same exact problems as Vista..Its all compatibility related..Service pack 1 for Vista is coming out this month I believe..I even need a new printer, because Vista doesn't use parallel ports anymore. What is your processor? What programs are you trying to use?

The guy looks at the battery usage and says "No way should this battery be this low, we'll replace it under warranty." I was impressed.

Of course, with computers being computers no matter who makes them, ALWAYS get the extended warranty. ALWAYS. And max the hell out of your RAM for fantastic speed.
