Just as Aerosmith would not be Aerosmith without Steven Tyler, or the Rolling Stones would not be the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger.

Well that would be one way to look at it. But I think the more accurate way to look at it is that people aren't even aware of post-Steve Perry music.

I so agree with this. The people that Journey will be playing to this summer are casual fans who want to hear the songs that they remember. As long as the sound is close to what they remember, they will be happy. Just as these fans don't realize that SP isn't singing, they would not notice or care if NS wasn't there either. I witnessed this first-hand during the 30th Anniv tour. For many people, music is just a back drop in their lives. They don't live and breathe it like some of us do so you can't expect them to follow the day-to-day soap opera that is Journey.

Natalie wrote:OK, so I was driving in to work this morning and the radio station that I was listening to was having a contest-caller 15 won a Journey's GH CD.
So, the DJ gets caller 15 on the phone and they start talking Journey. The DJ says something like this "You gotta love Journey-they are always great, but Journey just would not be Journey without Steve Perry. I am getting so tired of all of these 80's bands touring with none of the original members except maybe the drummer."
I started laughing right out loud. I really wanted to call in and ask this guy where he'd been for the last decade plus!!!! I resisted the urge though.

My pop is FAR from a hardcore Journey fan - he grew up in the doo-wop era. He's all about tight harmonies and accapella. But he does know of and even likes a few Journey songs...and he's always known who Steve Perry is (many of his friends who still sing in doo-wop bands even agree that SP is THE VOICE). But they wouldn't know any other past or present members from a can of paint.
I do fault this DJ for being in the music industry and not knowing his shit, though. It always pisses me off when I'm correcting something that a radio DJ says wrong. That's what YOU'RE getting paid for, not ME!!!!
