If the box has a green light on it, I don't think it's DTV though. Do you know who their provider is? You could do a search for known issues with that service or receiver. I know DTV has technical forums where all kinds of issues are discussed. Maybe you can find an answer that way.
texafana wrote:Sounds like a over heating issue. They probably don't leave it on long enough to experience the problem. Or, as a last resort it could be a short somewhere caused by other components. For instance, was the microwave or oven on during this? How about a nearby computer or washer/dryer, etc?

Question, is there anything sitting on of the receiver box? That will cause the box to overheat and at times short out.

Good question. Uhm, shoot. I'm trying to visualize here. I don't think so. Maybe. I'm not there anymore, so I honestly don't know. I do know that I keep the cabinent door open when I have the tv on, so that it doesn't over heat. Thanks for the tip.
I'm thinking maybe it is over heating. My tv upstairs does that from time to time. It pops off and on at inopportune times.

If it's over heating and only does it when you're there, either they don't watch much TV or they're lying to you about it only happening when you're there. The latter gets my vote.

Maybe it's just your magnetic personality messing things up??
scarygirl wrote:I dogsit from time to time for my employer. They have one of those direct tv packages. Last night in the middle of a movie the tv just flicks off. No reason, nothing, just went off. I thought it was just a fluke, so I turned everything off and back on. Again, it stayed on or a second and then flickered off. When I looked over I noticed that the green (on light) on the home stereo receiver was flickering back and forth. NOt knowing anything about that sort of thing, I just turned if off for good. This has happened before btw. Long story short, each time this has happened I have told my employers about it, and each time they blame me because according to them this NEVER happens to them and being sensitive tv equipment it has to be the human involved! Just so you know they have explicit instruction on how to turn the different components on and off which I follow to the letter.
To those that have satellite tv, any ideas why this happens? Could it be it over heats? I did watch tv for a good part of the day yesterday. This never happens with their satelitte tv in the guest room which leads me to believe there is something wrong with their living room system. Anyway, thanks for the room to rant.
On a side note, a little while back a fuse or something to that effect broke in their microwave and I was blamed for that too. The night before the power in their house had flickered for like ten seconds, dont know if one has anything to do with the other.
