Journey- "Mother, Father"
Rush- "Time Stand Still"
Porcupine Tree- "Lazarus"
Boston- "Hitch a Ride"
Bruce Springsteen- "Born to Run"

It seems like certain moments of this song are "triggers" to that odd feeling. Of course, in "Mother, Father" it's near the end of the song when Smitty nails those drums... "Have faith, believe...." and then Perry goes into angel mode. Absolutely beautiful.

The other one of these songs that seems to hit me the hardest, every time, is "Time Stand Still." I can't put my finger on it. The way Geddy Lee sings "Freeze this moment just a little bit longer..." makes me shiver. Great song overall, I'd put it up there with Rush's best..

Do they make you feel funny in your pants?

;)

Speaking of Rush, one song of theirs that I always loved was a song called "Losing It". Anybody know that one? It's about artists who gradually lose the edge to creating their craft. Talks about a writer who's older mind clouds with indecision, a dancer that gets old and can no longer do the moves that she used to... just a very cool song and an original topic. Loved the lyrics for that one. I was into Rush up until Grace Under Pressure and then I kind of just didn't follow them any longer.

Yeah, I like that one too. Great haunting guitar sound on that song with an all too short solo at the end that leaves you desperate for it to carry on.

Dude, Hitch a Ride has the most unbelievably melodick and perfect guitar solo I've ever heard. The way it starts out and then the harmony guitars layered and the way the song ends on a solo instead of more singing is just sublime.

Speaking of RUSH, "Subdivisions" always gives me the chills right at the intense build up near the end of the song and the drum flourishes at the end of the song. Whew!

I'm a big tough man, so my friend was shocked to see me cry in happiness and emotional overdrive when they played "Subdivisions" at the show I went to. That's one of my top Rush tracks, in fact it was the track that got me into the band.

OMG..."Subdivions" is one of the most emotional songs in concert, esp the ending. I usually just stand there through the whole song with my eyes close and feel the goosebumps on my arms. I hope they have it in the setlist again when I see them in May.

Some other songs for me:

The Church-Under The Milky Way
Pat Benatar-One Love
Bette Midler-From A Distance
U2- All I Want is You
Eagles-The Sad Cafe
Dan Fogelberg-Auld Lane Syne
Rolling Stones-Almost Hear You Sigh
Beatles-Something
Chicago-No Tell Lover
Sheryl Crow-The Difficult Kind
Sheryl Crow-I Shall Believe

The ENTIRE 2nd side of Abbey Road.

I defy ANYONE to find a better, more emotional, moment in recorded "rock" history than this finale by The Beatles.

Actually, the solo (if I recall correctly) was a guest musician playing a violin. Very cool.

OH MAN- I CRANK "THE END" every time I hear it. The drum solo and the guitar solos with Paul, John, and George all taking a solo is MAGIC. Not 'brilliant' or anything, just RIGHT FOR THE SONG which they always did. Seriously, I LOVE that song AND that band. Helter Skelter and side one of HELP! (the UK one) also do that for me. HELP! had some of their best tunes on it in my opinion as did Rubber Soul and Revolver.

I'm a huge Beatle addict. My all time favorite band.

There's lots of songs that just stop me in my tracks but two without fail send me back to the good old days:

When Perry gently leads us into these words......Jackie's alone..........

and the one which gets me every time is Tommy Shaw's version of Ever Since the world began. Love Tommy's vocals on this one 8)

OK. Here's a gay one that gets me. Hate to admit it but the Carpenter's "We've only Just Begun". I know, they are sappy but Karen Carpenter had one of the greatest female voices I've ever heard. Insanely great vibrato that could chill you to the bone. Bash away! :D

I'll keep it to Jrny.

Sorry if any of these are boring but if hear any of them come on start I'd sooner admit that Saint John was frightengly close to the truth with the High On You/Jamison/Clothespin/nether region joke about me than turn them off before they end.

Kudos to you on the Ambrosia. Incredible band and underrated too.

BTW, Buffalo Springfield's song is For What It's Worth whoever called it "Something Happening Here." One of my pet peeves is songs being mistitled... kinda like when you hear ppl calling DSB "Just a Small Town Girl" or something like that

Postby LaDoDa » Thu Mar 06, 2008 2:52 pm

So far too many to mention here, but the one that always "haunts" me is Colin Hay's "I Just Don't think I'll Ever Get Over You".

unbelievable song. unbelievable lyrics. chilling.
