I agree,I do Faithfully and used to do WYLAW,I had to drop it. It is a harder sound to sing. It didnt sound that bad, I heard him do it in 2003 and he sound much better on it.That was his first year with Journey, he struggled in 98> 2002 2003 was his best time with Journey IMHOLiquid_Drummer wrote:Man I must correct you on saying this isnt a hard song to sing. I cant explain why but the later material while lower in register is harder to sing for me. Im sure you heard my covers and I did stuff that was way higher and had no problems but when I tried this one it was very hard and I bailed on it. What SP lost in range he made up in emotion and the way he pronouced things changed and made the TBF stuff hard to sing..

The exception was JSS, who brought a new dimension to the songs, simply by the fact that his vocal tone and timbre were different than SP's.

I found JSS' timbre close to Perry's on the ROR and TBF material. And I thought he pulled WYLAW off with the same soulful finesse as Perry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gn8TzSoF1M

Pretty good. It's not that hard a song to sing for me. The end of Faithfully would be tough.
I think if Augeri's pitch was good, he would've done fine on the song. But man, it's terrible on that youtube clip. Yikes!

I think Jeff's version is FAR better! Even though I was never convinced that Jeff was the right voice for Journey, he clearly has FAR more power in his voice than Augeri! I'm not the vocal expert that some are on this website, but, Augeri's voice just sounds FAR too thin (not sure if that's the appropriate lingo, but that's the only way I can articulate how it sounds to me) trying to sing most of these songs. I thought Augeri sounded superb on "Arrival". Those songs were obviously recorded, with his natural range in mind. When he tried to reach for notes in most of the other classic Journey tracks, he usually fell woefully short!

We've all agreed the journey catalog can WRECK someone's voice...and right now we're comparing someone who had been singing it for a few years, to someone who invariably HADN'T (not full time anyway) on the same song. I love JSS just as much as the next guy, but he had a clear advantage in sound there...
Not right now,i am computor challenged. I fuck up my posting and spelling half the time, {you know that} We are are getting a demo tape together next month, ill try something then. My keyboard skills are close to Cains, my vocals are nowhere close to Perrys Augeris, or Arnels, I am an average singer, but I will play the shit out of a piano in a heart beat. If Cain ever got the rear end crazys one night,Id play that whale,{after I dissenfect it} Like a somabitch. All night.brywool wrote:stevew2 wrote:The "Im still yours" part is a ball buster,I rarely hit thatbrywool wrote:Deb wrote:annie89509 wrote:Let's face it, anyone they get to sing those songs originated by SP is going to be compared to how the man himself sang those songs, and they will pale in comparison.
