Really? It didn't come across that way to me when "and it's not always fun dealing with them" followed the description.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it sure hit me the wrong way - and it takes a lot to get me riled up!

"It's not always fun dealing with them"- did you read some of the comments people posted here about him within this very thread? I get the guys trepidation!
Still, seemed like it was almost a compliment to me. If he said "you guys are the craziest and wildest fans..."- it's the same thing, he just used psychotic (for crazy) and rabid (for wild).
Geez, maybe he just needs a thesaurus.

Yeah, I probably just need a Valium....just got home from work and that's the first thing I read!

Don't take it personal, we're all assholes!

TBF should have sounded awesome considering they blew something like a million bucks on that album.
brywool wrote:Speaking of TBF- has anybody ever noticed that Perry's vocals almost sound a bit distorted? Almost like they were run too hot or something. It drives me crazy whenever I listen to it with headphones.

I am guessing that Generations was done on a dime and they tried to get away with shortcuts by overcompressing instead of a proper mixdown that would require more studio time. It bit them in the butt when it went to get mastered...just a guess. Strangegrey would probably know more about that than I do...I am live sound guy.
The new Scorpions album sounds pretty good. Probably had a decent budget and someone who knew what they doing and actually cared about the mix.

When I listen with headphones I hear how rough (I don't want to say bad) Perry's vocals really were. Still amzingly emotive, but not strong and clear at all.

TOTALLY done on purpose...to give them a "new age" sounding "edge".

My ears were better then than they are now, and there were some REALLY good ears on those tracks. The Site's engineer's are first class, and having George Massenburg hisself around wasn't what someone rushing something would do.

Time is the key. There is no longer the patience required to craft the song sonically. Everyone seems to think their bedroom is as good as a studio control room and that Pro -Tools and a MAC sound as good as a Neve and a Studer running 30 ips DOLBY SR.
As long as you're listening to an iPod and MP3s, they're not too far off.
As the quality of ingredients can affect the outcome of a dish, so too does the quality and integrity of signal matter to the final product.
Shirley, as a chef of audio ingredients can only do so much with what he's given. No amount of Studio gimmickry can save a poor song.
But know this, the mastering engineer, can screw you after you've spent all the time and money in the world. With ELECTRIC WORLD, there are sounds and textures we worked HARD to produce and they washed them out so much, it pains me to listen to some songs. There was a single triangle hit that they eliminated that changes the whole structure of the song.
Anyway, I digress into my personal jungle and all that was to say the mastering engineer can change the final product as well, and they have been known to hand the producer one copy, and the record company another one. And if the Record Company is paying, guess whose version is ending up at the pressing plant.
