That's called rehashing old material and calling it new material. Remember Me was a new original song that had the Journey sound. It didn't reinvent the wheel, right? But guess what? It was a "new" song. Not rehashed. Not recycled. NEW. ...I really feel like a broken record repeating this so often.
Oh, I see. Well, some would call that having a "signature sound"...AC/DC does it, Boston did it, other bands have done it...
I don't see it as a "rehash" or "rewrite" of "BGTY" or "BIM"....but its def got a similar vibe (and why shouldn't it, the same guitarist plays all 3 songs)...but so does "Love Don't Come Easy" by White Lion....similar vibe...in fact, when I was listening to "Never Walk Away", there was a point after the first chorus where I was reminded of "Tell Me" from White Lion. Were they rehashing WL? No...its simply a song with a similar vibe, IMO. The new song shares more of a vibe with these other songs than it is an example of "rehashing".
Anyway, I probably sound like I'm splitting hairs now. I don't mind Journey sounding like Journey...
Okay, then I have to believe you don't have much of an ear for these things. The chord progression between NWA and BGTY are identical. The chorus melody and backing vocals are identical. This song (NWA) is about as original as when a car commercial pays studio musicians to alter a classic hit just enough to get around legal copyright infringements so they don't have to pay licensing fees to the originating artists. By your logic, that car commercial lift would be considered a new song. After all, they changed it enough, right?
