Nope, not true. Perry was at his "best" in '82-'83. I am glad he didn't walk away back then, but I am sure he would even agree the period of time that included E5C4P3, Frontiers and Street Talk was his vocal and songwriting peak.
Well, you all have more knowledge of this than I do. The last thing I remember from Journey was the song on Visionquest and Steve Perry sounded good to me then. He never embarassed himself, even if you all feel he was past his peak. I have my worries currently of how the Triumph reunion will turn out. I know Rik still has his chops and can sing since I have seen his solo shows. No one has heard Gil Moore sing in a long time though. Consider me cautiously excited, but I hope they don't do anything to tarnish my memories.
