Worst President Ever

Who do you think is the worst president ever? GWBush and Clinton are not options as they are both too fashionably listed by right and left wingers.

James Buchanan is a likely candidate as well. Sat around doing nothing to save the Union between 1856-60, strong action could have averted a civil war.

Grant, a drunk was poor, Harding a crook, and Carter totally unqualified are the other three.

Give Millard Filmore some credit by the way - he was the first president to put a bathtub in the White House. From that point our presidents might have stunk from time to time, but only in figurative terms- their armpits smelled great

George Bush will go down as the all time worst, but for the purposes of this poll, I also selected Jimmy Carter.

Hmmmm.....I guess Gerald Ford would have known that Iran was going to take hostages in advance and taken decisive action to avoid the situation. And he would also have known in advance a rescue mission would end in failure...better not to try at all, right ? It's too bad Carter completely tied the hands of the Federal Reserve so they couldnt react to the high interest rates.

Look, I'm not making a case that Carter was a great president, if he was, he surely would have been re-elected. But worst president ever ??? I think a closer look at the history books and a little less Rush Limbaugh show is in order here.

Ridiculous assertion. How in the world could he possibly know this? The government didn't take the hostages, it was the religious student movement who eventually took over the country.

This has nothing to do with Limbaugh. Here's why he's the worst President ever:

When the Sha of Iran was being overthrown, he asked for our help. Carter took a hands off approach saying "it's an internal Iranian issue and they have a right to decide what's best for their own country". On principle, I agree, but the same argument could have been made about Hitler. Those who overthrew the Sha were the same religious fanatics who are in power today. We have Carter to thank for that.

Warren G. Harding…

His greatest claim to fame was being the first president to visit Alaska.

His administration was every bit as corrupt as Nixon’s, but he did not have the intelligence, cunning, and guile of Tricky Dick.

His speeches were often grammatically inept, just like George W.

Harding was the worst.

First off, he hasnt been elected (yet) 2nd if you really believe the mans middle name has any relevance in any way shape or form, your perspective is so warped that its basically of no value in a serious discussion of politics......

Ronald Wilson Reagan has 6 letters in all 3 names.....666 HE MUST HAVE BEEN THE ANTICHRIST !!!! again completely ridiculous, but about as relevant.

I agree with your logic. You can't condemn anyone until they've had a chance to prove themselves one way or another.

LOL - I'm too Canadian to really participate in this thread. One note about HARDING though - he showed that some presidents had trouble keeping it in their pants long before Clinton or Kennedy.

Carter was a horrendous president, but a good man. He's easily the best ex-president we've had, in my lifetime. That said, I'm still writing in W., as I believe he makes Carter look like one of the top presidents this country has ever seen. I can only hope that our country NEVER sees a president this horrific again, in my lifetime!

I disagree John. Every Pres has some mistakes, but most of the problems of this country belong on Congress. At least Bush awoke this world to going after terrorists instead of hiding in fear. No matter what any politician says we will be at war with fanatic Islam because they see it as lthe crusades, Trust me for the rest of my life ,and maybe yours also, we are in jeporady. This started ,by the way ,in the 70's and neither Carter,Reagan or Clinton saw it as war.

Bush is a jackass, period, end of story! My disdain for the guy aside...I GUARANTEE you that George W. Bush will FOREVER be viewed as one of the absolute worst (if not the worst) presidents that this country has ever seen! In my opinion, there isn't even anyone a close second to the guy, at this point!

Joking. The reference to his full name was from a recent Jerimiah Wright speech where he used his full name emphatically.

BTW - I don't know about worst EVER but, Carter is certainly near the top.

Well, if you are going to limited like that, it is absolutely the first Bush...because it's obvious to me that his biggest mistake is currently sitting in the White House.

I can't argue with those in their 40-30's because you never lived those yrs or were children. In my lifetime the best Presidents were John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan & GW Bush. They were/fighters fighters and earned respect. Reagan hand on bible Iran releases hostages split screen TV same time. I do wish Reagan would have hit Lebanon when our marine barricks was blown up. But Reagan did change the cold war with Gorbachev. Clinton should have went after Iran when our interests got hit but could find no legal reason. Attorney's should never be President. Much is made of G W . Some is true but most has to do with your ever loving Congress. At least he took it to them, we still have an oil supply and haven't been hit again so far. At least the oil companies are testifying to the fact that this country has oil and shale oil and coal that the Dems have blocked retrieving since the 1970-80's. A huge new discivery was found 2 mo ago in N Dakota and S Dakota. Lets drill off our waters like China is doing . Thanks Jimmy Carter and Dem congress for giving the Panama Canal away in the 70's . I hate to tell Obama, who thought that Mccain was addressing him as foreign policy idiot, he was actually talking about Jimmy Carter being over there defending Hamas. Idiots !!

Poll is moot without W....

He'd win hands down.

Even Carter and Nixon can claim some positive achievements
