the only way anyone thinks that van tequilla is better than VH is if you never like van halen to begin with
sammy is the better vocalists and was a good live preformer before he became the tequilla guy aka jimmy buffet of the non yuppies.
how many times do you hear any of the van hagar songs on the radio now, compared to classic VAN HALEN.
look at all the people here tonight or
that stupid thing sammy did with his fingers
no contest.

verslibre wrote:I grew up with DLR-Halen (Fair Warning and 1984 were my favorite albums way back when) and I first remembered being confounded that Sammy Hagar had become VH's new singer.
That was because I didn't know shit about Hagar back then, as I do now.
Yes, the DLR era is more, one could say, "unique" due to Dave and Ed.
However, as a pure vocalist, and songwriter (not to mention Sam also plays an instrument, and Dave can only play with himself), I respect Sam far more than Dave. Montrose and many (not all) of Sammy's solo albums are great rock records. Dave's are all jokes. Yes, even the one he did with Vai and Sheehan. I have NO idea why it gets so much praise. In spite of the top-shelf musicians Dave surrounded himself with, Eat 'Em And Smile sounds like a limp-dicked version of VH. And it just got worse after that. Rejoining VH is the best thing that's ever happened to Dave, and I'm sure it's working wonders for his mortgage, his bank accounts, and his credit card balances.
So with me, it's not an age issue. I just know what I like.
