Jeff Scott Soto was just too different of a sound and I can understand why Schon and Cain didn't want to continue with him (it's just that they went about it in such a lousy way that is disappointing).
I have Kevin Chalfant's Journey CD and while he sounds good, I was surprised at how amateurish the arrangements and playing is on the tracks. I probably would have been okay with Chalfant as frontman for Journey.
Arnel has a great sound and I am hoping that the band is on the right track now. At least they ditched the "Generations" idea of letting everyone sing. That was horrible!

I DO agree he is better off doing his own thing now..........can spread his wings. Journey to me is sooooooo much more than just that early period of Perry's high tenor (I actually preferred Perry's more raw emotive vocals from Frontiers, ROR, TBF) and Jeff pulled those eras off great. If your "Journey" preference is more the very early high tenor stuff then ya, you're not going to dig what Jeff brought to the table.

you mean like Be Good To Yourself and Only the Young? Bootleg recordings of those made my mind up but quick.
One other thing, had I heard Augeri's RAW boots before the tapegate stuff (I hadn't heard any bootlegs of him till here-only the Vegas DVD), I wouldn't have wanted him in the band either, at least live. Journey stuff was too high for him. Augeri always had trouble with the Journey gig, this from a mutual voice coach.
Damn, if only ERIC MARTIN was here!
Right Deb?

True. JSS is the consummate performer. But in terms of musical chemistry, I never felt it between Neal and Jeff. Not on the solo stuff and not on the GH's. He had the right vibrato, which was a step up from the Augeri years, but as in terms of chemistry, just wasn't there.
Still, it's no excuse for the manner in which he was treated. He saved their asses, he deserved better. Neal should pick up the phone and have a heart to heart with him. I think they'd both feel better afterward.
