Maybe he's just a great vocalist? Ever consider that one?

You're always a hard one to please. Almost as hard to please as my most recent ex.
As a girl myself in what way you can't please your ex...? Just for curiosity...

He wouldn't take her to the Boom-Boom room! Also, it was a little cold that night..... Don't you know about shrinkage???
Well he better have a say into this...his whole reputation is in question
Con el nuevo Journey sigue siendo el mejor banda del rock...y despues de tantos anos la musica sigue vive...

Actually, I never did -that- with her.

Nothing I did semeed to be good enough for her. She'd complain about every smallest thing and was just a huge whiner. After awhile I got sick of it and sent her on her way.

The DVD is touched up. That is not 100% live. It's not a lip, but it was messed with.

Right, it's PRODUCED. Every band that releases a "live" concert album mixes the songs for the DVD. It doesn't mean anything is "lipped" it simply means it's "polished".

I guess some of those people think 5.1 surround happens by itself. LOL

The whole band was on FIRE for the filming and Arnel is perfect singing the Journey catalog.

I'm beyond impressed with the DVD and the new songs.

I thought the same thing- he absolutely nailed M/F.

I just bought the cd/dvd on the way home from work and threw in the dvd.  My thoughts......

- First song "Anyway you want it", hearing Arnel add "ah" on to the end of almost every word......I thought there is going to be no way I am going to be able to watch this whole show if that's the case, but he seemed to lose it on the next songs.  :?

- Really, really like "After All These Years!"

- Realized I still love Deen to pieces.   Mother/Father was amazing!  That is one talented dude.

- Ya just can't not like Arnel!  Such a happy little camper.

- Saint John may have been right on one thing that he was ribbing me about today in another thread (when he said you don't have to sound like Wolfman Jack to be emotive  ).  All 3 of my faves have a certain amount of grit to their voices......and to me that seems to add feeling/passion to a vocal (ballad or rocker).....more emotive.  Although I like Arnel's voice and he sounds great, he sometimes is just a little too 'crisp and clean and no caffiene' for me (like the early Perry stuff)...........IMO, Deen's vocals had more passion in their delivery than Arnel's.

Agreed. Thankfully, I despise that song anyway so it didn't really bother me, but he has to cut that out on the old material. His own songs? Those he can do as he wishes.

So is everything else these days. *GASP* They used ProTools on Arnel's voice on the album too! What's this world coming to?!!

Look, Perry was fucking inhuman.

Everyone else is touched up.

Right and even today if Perry were in his prime, he'd still get ran through the cleaner.

A friend and I recorded a song a couple of years ago in a brand new studio. I'm old school, where you go over it until you get it, but we went through the vocals twice, laid them down, did something with rephrasing and they "cleaned" it for us. There were two mistakes each of us made, it took a couple of turns from a little nob and it was fixed. It saved me probably a hundred to two hundred bucks. It was worth it.

Nothing coming out these days doesn't get "cleaned" up a little.

It's funny now, because when you go back and listen closely to the old recordings before pro-tools, you can definitely hear the mistakes, not that that's a bad thing, but with all the perfection today, it's easy to hear the imperfection of yesterday. I actually love a little imperfection.

Another good drummer is Styx's Todd Sucherman. On their latest dvd, there's a section called 'quake cam' that just focuses on Todd. Holy crap.... it 's awesome to watch the guy.

I know when I saw the Main Event tour. Todd Sucherman was absolutely amazing. I spent STYX's whole set marvelling at his drumming. His playing blew away Castronovo and Bryan Hitt's put together. :D And that's saying something.
