Yea, but your ace in the hole is that you have mammory glands....I think that goes a long way to securing 1-2 minutes of neals attention without him telling you to 'fuck off'

I was about 10 years old when I breifly met Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie at a 7/11 in San Bruno, CA (must have been sometime between Evolution and Departure). They pulled up in a limo and I guess were going to pick up some "tasty" beverages I assume. Anyway, at that age I had no idea who these guys were and they were totally cool to me for about the ten minutes they were there. I had their autographs on a 7/11 napkin, but that is long lost in time. Anyway, I was one kid that Neal (and Gregg) treated very kindly for that breif moment in time. 8)

Stopped, talked, and answered Tito's 3,789 questions.

I remember you sharing that experience.

1. It wasn't as bad as SJ recalled. I laughed at the comment.
2. I did not ask Cain 3,789 questions. I asked Castronovo 3,789 questions. Actually, I didn't really ask anybody any questions, I had a nice conversation with both but mostly Castronovo.

Gotta ask you the same thing I asked RVR when he said that Perry told him "What the fuck do you want?!?!" Perhaps he knew you were an asshole?  :P

Has Eric Clapton and Neal Schon ever shared a stage?

At 15, Neal had to choose between joining Santana or playing with Clapton. I don't know if there are any recordings of them playing together out there, tho.

Sallee?

Yes Niggy, there are recordings of Clapton and Schon out there to find. I have one, or maybe two of them. (:D Now I will be hearing those words... "Fork it over!

From what I have read here over the years, most have had postive feelings on their "meetings" with Mr. Schon. That is unless they have had some type of business relationship with the man or expected alot of perks (ie. backstage, free tics, hangin' out, etc.) from the man.

No judgement, just an observation.

The jam happened on 10-18-70 at Village Recorder Studio. It was a studio jam between Santana and Eric Clapton. Sort of an audition for Neal. Clapton invited Neal to play at the Community Theater the next night (10-19-70), and Clapton wanted Neal to join Derek and The Dominos. And you know the rest of the history....... :D

I honestly think if you got Clapton, Neal, and SRV (if he were still here) all on stage to jam, the world would reach critical mass and implode.

It'd be that awesome. 8)

No. Once musicians reach that level, it's unfair to make it a competition. May is an incredible player. One of the few players in rock (Satriani kinda comes to mind but he's not really in "rock") that shares Neal's incredible command of melody during his solos.

Lol, so true. I'd only believe these stories about Neal seeing it myself or if there were a critical mass of people here confirming, as well as no good experiences. He seems like a decent enough guy in his interviews/spots. I'm sure he hasn't been great to every fan who has ever approached him, but only Biblical characters can be that flawless. I've had good experiences with the few musicians I've had the chance to meet

I know Jimmy Fox, the drummer from the James Gang (Joe Walsh's vehicle to stardom) personally and he's a great and very eloquent guy who knows tons about the music industry. I love talking to him. Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell from America do meet & greets for ALL their fans after every show (no bullshit platinum package where you have to pay 400$ just so you can get a nod and a handshake) and are so gracious about signing things for fans and actually looking you in the eye. I saw them a couple of years ago and I had bought their newly released concert DVD with me to get signed for my dad, who was supposed to come with me but had ended up having triple bypass surgery a few days before. I told them his story, that he'd seen them 12 times before, and that tonight woulda been his 13th, and both of them talked to me for at least 5 minutes (with tons of fans waiting behind) and they both took the time to write my dad a personal note on the autograph on the DVD cover urging him to get well. THEN, they signed the shirt I had bought for him, the shirt I bought for myself, and one of my CDs. This was after a concert on an August night where it had to be at least 100 degrees out during that heatwave we had in 2006. Class fuckin guys.

I really hope Neal would be cool to me if I ever met him. He's one of my biggest influences on guitar. I'd just say hi, tell him I really enjoy his playing, maybe get an autograph or ask him a gear/guitar question if he wasn't being mobbed and move on. I think these guys get turned off the most by two things:

(1) People that EXPECT them to sign a million things or do other favors and to fawn over each fan for enjoying the artist's music

and

(2) The crazed fans. You know, in the case of men, the puny little guys who don't know how to use their dicks, or in the case of women, the mostly obese who have irrational sexual fixations on the band member in question. The only coherent sentences they can make themselves form around said band member are those of the extreme brown-nosing variety and that's probably just obnoxious after the first couple of times, when its flattering.

If they're dicks, they're dicks. Oh well. It happens. It's just like athletes. In order to succeed, these guys have to have huge egos. Even the "nice guys" have huge egos. They're just a little classier about tempering their displays of ego. Sometimes its best to avoid meeting your heroes. You just might find out they aren't what you idealized in your head.

I met America while they they were performing at The NCO club at Clark AFB in the Philippines. They are former Air Force brats and just the most down to earth guys you would ever want to meet. This was in 1990 or about and these guys already had passed their zenith in regards to success but they were still wide eyed and full of energy like they were in their 20's still. Just good folk, plain and simple.

Without a question. They're no different nearly 2 decades on. Even after nonstop touring for 30+ years. Their live show is still great - their harmonies are right up there with The Eagles, Little River Band, and Crosby Stills and Nash in the history of great classic vocal bands. They beat the piss out of Chicago when they opened for them in Detroit last June. I'm hoping to go catch them next Saturday in Lakeside, OH.

When I met Neal, he also had a drink in his hand (complete with a cocktail umbrella).
His hands were balmy and cold...like death.
