A classy comment from a classy guy. Jeff, you're a good man.

I've heard consistently that singers should talk as little as possible following a show if they want to treat their voice properly.

I hear you. Perhaps simply signing autographs---combined with smiles and a little sign language would be fine!

Yeah, that's why we see so many of them touring America/the world, and knocking down the big bucks.

God I hope he doesnt have to share a bunk with Friga, then again if he does, he will be hitting the high notes for sure

It's good advice

Arnel as well as the band are
hopping planes & crossing time lines

Arnel's body didn't even have much time
to get on US time
before they flew to Europe.

That in itself is taxing on the body

One of the actors in the show I'm in right now is also a rock singer and he always has a thermos of that stuff backstage. I'm gunna have to try that.

Check out their touring schedules when he was in the band. They were punishing.
I marvel that the guy's voice stayed fit & well for as long as it did.
Singing those notes as frequently as he did for the length of time he did, whilst travelling and staying in hotels etc = tough.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but he should have had longer breaks.
As we all know, a broken guitar string can be changed immediately. A piano can be re tuned. A drumstick or skin can be replaced.
A voice can't.

You can buy Sage teabags here in the UK. They work just as well, and no chance of getting confused with illegal herbs. :)
And not as messy when you are touring.
I bet you can buy them in the US, too.

I think you guys are missing the point. Soto misinterpeted Cain's comment. Re-read Cain's comments. If still unclear, read Saint John's comment that spells it out.

Agreed. We're on the same boat, Sarah. I noticed it--but I simply brushed it off because I thought JSS' info was useful and "new" to me. I can understand Tito's concern, though. For clarity, it could have been a new topic. :) No harm done.

that is simply based on your immune system. Due to travelling, motels, constant changes in weather and humidity, lack of sleep, stress and everything else that goes along with touring, your immune system is going to be decreased. If you are running at less than 100%, all it takes is one sneezing, sniffling, coughing fan backstage to breathe on you, and then you or someone else in the band gets the cold. Then, the entire band gets sick, and you have the perfect buildup to losing your voice--and that is without the the added curse of some people (like me) who get laryngitis at the first sign of a cold, and there goes the high range which can take days to weeks to recover.

There's a lot more at risk to a singer than some would expect.

That's a great tip
Sage is super medicinal

Interesting.
Hadn't really thought of sage tea
but I have burned the leaves to cleanse the air

Ward off evil voice spirits & stale hotel odor

Honey is also great!

I'll have to try that

The old standby tea
which I love the taste of
is

Throat Coat.

Had Slippery Elm Bark
& a licorice flavor
as well as other things.

It really works very well.

Thanks for the additional info, Shadowsong. Again, I don't mind the "subliminal" shift in topic---as long as some people will benefit from it. At this point, I guess all new, practical throat-- and voice--protection-related tips are most welcome, too. Who knows?... someone from Neil & company may, by chance, peek into this thread!

Thanks, kgdjpubs. I see your point---with some caveats. This may be a stretch….but I believe one becomes immune to something by slow exposure to the same thing for prolonged periods of time. I believe that sometimes if you “sanitize” too much, i.e., overdo it, the more you become susceptible to illness...striking a balance may not be bad idea. Airborne virus is everywhere, anyway!

Yes, as long as you give him good food everytime you run the vacuum, consistently! That's what they call "Classical or Pavlovian conditioning" in behavioural science, if I'm not mistaken. Sooner or later, your dog will tend to anticipate with excitement your running vacuum!!!
