Yup, like a mofo.

And I imagine in a similar situation you would have rolled over and allowed your colleagues to profit from your work..after they'd fired you.

Perry quit on his bandmates and the fact that he didn't tour from 1986 to 1998 (or since for that matter!) proves that. He fired himself by refusing to tour. When employees refuse to work you have to tell them they're fired because that's obviously what they want.

So you would have rolled over? Say there was a project at work you co-designed and were the public face of the project too. And you fell ill or lost motivation and got fired. Would you really just forfeit all claims of the work you've done when you were healthy and/or motivated? You'd just let your colleagues go ahead and take all the cash?

If so..then you're a muppet.

Perry deserves to get paid for what he contributed. However, what is created while in the "corporation" is also their right to use when you exit the corporation...your royalties being paid of course. Bill Gates stepped down as CEO of Microsoft not too long ago, but before doing so, he didn't try and run it into the fucking ground. He didn't put his burnout on everyone else. He's tired so everyone else should be? He can't do it anymore so the company should just fold? Get the fuck outta here.

Those old Rolling Stone journos who slammed the band for being a soulless and cynical corporate rock act would love posts like this...

It's a BAND Saint John. With ROCK STARS. And...shock horror...sometimes they behave badly and selfishly.

Interestingly though...the only two members of the band who have ever taken responsibility for their past actions and admitted they were wrong are...Perry and Smith. Maybe you ought to factor that in to this resentful mantra you keep repeating about his past misdeeds. Perry is in a very different place now it seems to me....whereas you are like a stuck fucking record.

Perry only admitted to the most obvious of mistakes. Nothing else. He still plays the plausible deniability card at every turn. He's turned himself into a sympathetic figure and perpetuated the ridiculous notion that he's "still as good as anytime in the mid 80's" through his collection of hand-picked bullhorns. Really quite silly.

Who are you? His Roman Catholic priest? Surely the "obvious mistakes" are enough?

He still plays the plausible deniability card at every turn.

I have no idea what you mean by this comment. Got any examples?

He's turned himself into a sympathetic figure

No - he's just being the way he is. The "sympathetic" aspect depends entirely on the perceiver. I've felt sympathetic toward him since the 1980s. You did too until you developed this weird, fetishishtic resentment toward him.

perpetuated the ridiculous notion that he's "still as good as anytime in the mid 80's" through his collection of hand-picked bullhorns. Really quite silly.

Ah..the Mafia Godfather scenario...the evil ruler pulling the strings. Oh come on...look at the words from the man himself...he's often said he needs to find out if he's still got it. He has never claimed ONCE that he is stiill at hs peak and if you think he bribed or bullied Joe Benson into saying that remark then you must be losing the plot, Saint John.

That's why I have such trouble with making an absolute declaration of "never going to happen". Too many weird, weird, weird, weird things in this industry. Roth and Van Halen, the Eagles, the Police and many others.

The exceptions were Perry/Journey and Cetera/Chicago. Right now, neither needs them right now

The Journey/Perry thing is probably less likely that the Cetera/Chicago thing as that seems more cut-off. Cetera sang on Bill Champlin's recent solo album, for example so it's not quite the same as not giving out a phone number as much as a case of "we've moved on, it's been twenty years". Plus, Cetera still sings live and records, whereas Perry doesn't really do either. Cetera doesn't quite sing as high as he once did, but still sounds similar (age vs. age+damage) and the Chicago catalog (while high) isn't as vocally punishing as the Journey catalog.

Still, why wait around for a reunion of any band? if they wanna do it, they'll do it. If they don't wanna, they won't.

Ummm. NO! Not everyone wants to see SP rejoin Journey...probably not the majority of us. And NO...it wouldn't be the same. These days...I'd take Arnel over SP any freakin' day. SP era of Journey is over. Thankfully.

I like the new/current Journey just fine thank you.

fair enough my friend but i disagree with u, i think most wud love 2 c perry rejoin journey even if they dont admit it

O.K. So let me be clear about my opinion....I absolutely loved Steve Perry's voice in his prime. But he is now a close to 60 year old singer who has done nothing for a decade. From the Frontiers tour forward...not close to the same voice he once had. That was 83! This is 2008 people!

Arnel's voice is right for Journey present day. I have zero interest...zero in seeing SP fronting Journey again. Origianl SP solo material...yes. But...Anyone who thinks SP would be a better vocalist for Journey these days is off their freakin' rocker! Besides as much as some of the loons around here would love to see it...SP isn't coming back.

Peter Cetera tries and that is all you can ask. We bought their stuff, both fan and artist got something out of it, but it's nice to see some artists still giving back to the fans. The Moody Blues, Bruce Springsteen and others are still bringing it. Perry doesn't owe fans anything and he gives fans nothing. It's all business with him which is fine but he hasn't proven that he is this lovable saint that his diehard fans make him out to be. Why does he lead you fans on with hints about putting something out or working on new stuff? Is it for you the fan or to make himself feel relevent? As an artist Perry has my respect 100%, as a human being, I'll take the Artists who don't put a statute of limitations on giving back to people who have put them on top of the hill, or at least being honest enough to say they don't have it anymore.

Wait a minute there! That statement sounds fabulously great if it were true and he was in fact the result of demonspawn. He's not such a bad guy; he's not evil or trying to wring out the last dollars from the band, or suing anyone at the moment; but I do know that he does care about his diehard fans and it is not always about the business. So, think about what you write cause it does sound ridiculous making those global statements about someone you don't know.

I don't think I called him anything that relates to demonspawn. But for people always dropping the" He's admitted he made some mistakes" acting like that absolves him of everything doesn't jive with me. I have never called him a bad word in my life but this one sided bashing against the other guys is hypocritical. I know him probably as much as you do of course. I am using the same opinion shield everyone else welds when they trash other members of the band. I would expect it to sound ridiculous to someone with a differing opinion but It's what I think so I am expressing it, I'm sure my own self esteem will make it though the day regardless.

And you do know him? Coming off like you know him and then telling someone else not to speak about someone they don't know doesn't make any sense. But you do happen to be right - it does sound ridiculous.

Its funny how so many people talk like they know him, what he thinks, why he did this or that, what he will or won't do and what he cares about...
