Apparantly you want everyone to acknowledge that this is a "Gold selling 2 Disc set" so as not to confuse the general buyer (who actually probably does not know how many CDs it takes to reach Gold ANYWAY) with a GOLD selling single disc set.

When Neal and co. place the placard trophy for a platinum sales figure on Revelation up on the wall next to their other platinum trophies, deep down they'll know they didn't truly match the distribution they achieved on those other single albums.

But they will also know that for a classic rock band with a 30+ year career releasing music in todays world of "illegal" downloading that THIS is a helluvan accomplishment and that will likely raise a smile. (And maybe a middle finger to the naysayers. And Perry if there is still any petty feelings there.)

TBF was certified platinum in December of 1996... but released in October 1996.

But the fact remains that 1,000,000 people did not buy TBF in 3 months. If they did, it would have been on the charts for longer than it was.

TBF did ship Platinum. Certification happens when the record label pays the RIAA for the audit of sales. The same reason Revelation is not "officially" Gold...the record label (or band) has not paid to audit sales. The telling point on TBF is that it did go double platinum...

If TBF shipped 1 million albums, then it would have been #1 on the charts. It was not, and it dropped off the charts the next week.

I'd like to know how TBF has gone 2X when an article from 2007 says it's sold 1.2 million. You really going to try and say that there are 800k copies of TBF floating around? Also, you don't think Sony would do everything in their power to get that 2x cert THE DAY it rolled over 2,000,000?

Well, as for TBF, I stand corrected. I had read somewhere that TBF finally went on to sell 2 million. But the RIAA does not have that certification.

But an album shipping platinum does not mean it will be #1 on any chart. First off, I don't know what the sales numbers for the #1 and #2 album were. Second, the charts are still about sales.

Yeah, include me in there, too. You'll see more Perry-era gems dusted off and re-recorded for the next CD, too. If they could do this on their own merit ONLY, then they could claim they'd had some success. So far, their success has been (as always) on Perry's coat tails.

I think the updated instruments are what I like most about the remakes that I do like.

The re-recorded "Stone in Love" is fantastic. Disc 2 of 'Revelation' is truly ..... well, a revelation. Arnel manages (in my opinion) to meet or exceed the original recordings (yes, those recordings -- the ones with Steve Perry) in 9 of the 11 songs. In some of these re-recordings, the instrumentals are also better. My comparison is:

Wheel in the Sky
Any Way You Want It
Who's Crying Now

= as good as the original
Open Arms

For the record, the 'Revelation' DVD version of "Separate Ways" is (in my opinion) the best version of that song, including the original version and the one from 'Greatest Hits Live'. Arnel totally nails it .....
