REO Speedwagon

I was fortunate enough to catch REO this weekend at RibFest in Naperville, Illinois. REO headlined the show and drew 50,000 people...yes, 50,000. The show was awesome and it's one of the loudest crowds I've ever been part of. They rocked the place.

Yeah, they rock while playing Richrath songs. They need to start calling themselves "Snoozewagon"

Oh, get over it. Richrath spends his days huddled around a fire sipping Night Train and waiting for his monthly royalty checks. If you ever decide to become a democrat maybe you could go join him. :P The moral of the story is that these guys are still a huge draw in certain parts of the country...Chicago, their home town, being one of them.

Sounds like a great time! Dennis DeYoung was playing at Frontier Days (in Arlington Heights) on July 4th. I would have gone, but we have our own little family fireworks tradition that I couldn't blow off. It was kind of funny, because from where we were sitting to watch Buffalo Grove's fireworks before they started, we could hear a Journey tribute band playing at Wheeling Family Fest. Some major eye rolling came from my husband when I started singing. :)

It was a fantastic show. At first, I didn't think all the people were there for them but there for the fireworks. But, as I was making my way towards the front from all the way in the back, a shitload of people were singing Take It On The Run. So most, if not nearly all, were there for them after all. As Diamond Dave would say, "Look at all the people here tonight."

Tito's been my concert road dog since seeing Steve Perry in 1994. We have a 14 year tour history that has to include well over 100 shows in various states.

I became a fan in 1987 and Richrath leaving was not a big deal for me. I have enjoyed their albums since he left and I knew that in the midwest they were HUGE. I don't know if they'll come back to CA this year. Last year, they were 20 miles away from me the day my son got married.!!! Ugh! I hope they come close again this year.

50,000! that is probably more than Journey played to on the whole of the UK tour. How many do you reckon Journey could draw in their own backyard? What is likely to be the biggest gig on their US tour?

They were also on an HDNET show Thurs night. That band is such a paradox. Cronin could be the biggest part of what made them, but he's so difficult to stomach. Always thought he needed to shut up more and quit looking like an aging lesbian.

Well, it is gold at 500,000 units sold and it may even eventually get to the point where 500,000 people purchased it.

Probably a certain degree of truth to that, but the fact remains that when they did start virtually the entire crowd went and watched them play. They're still huge and rightfully so. They have an awesome back catalog of radio friendly hits.

Tickets are only $10 ($8 presale). Would 50k show up at $35-$75 NO. But at $8 to $10, yes. They did 50k two years ago as well.
