OT | New Jeremey Tune Clip

Postby Jeremey » Tue Jul 29, 2008 3:49 am

Just putting a clip out there to see if I'm on the right track here....

I added a clip of one of the new original songs I'm putting together for my CD later this year to my Myspace page. Without giving any background info or anything, just interested in some first impressions...

Check it out at

http://www.myspace.com/jeremeyhunsicker

Thanks!

I love it, Jeremey. Sounds like E5C4P3-era Journey to me. A whole album of that would sell like gangbusters to this crowd.

I thought that sounded great. To me it's more along the Giuffria Sound than Journey, but that is very refreshing to hear something completely new. You are definitely headed in the right direction with that, in my opinion.

I like it.
Particularly your vocals and the guitar. Very nice indeed.
I like to hear you singing as yourself rather than doing SP or Neil Diamond stuff. You are great at them, but I prefer you to be you. 8)
Best of luck.

I actually liked it alot. But is the room getting too filled to sound Perryesque? If it is what you are looking for then I think it's solid.

Thanks for checking it out!

The frustrating thing is that it's going to sound like Perry, regardless. I told Jonathan Cain a few months ago I did NOT want to do a Journey (sounding) record, but something more organic and in line with the original material I write on my own...Believe it or not, what I'm going for with this project is basically a Non-Country Rascal Flatts/Keith Urban type sound, songwriting, and a Dann Huff-style production. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be possible to break free from the Steve Perry sound, which is what led me to Frontiers to begin with. I guess the best thing to do is just stick with a more organic and modern production and keep the vocal similarities as limited as possible...

Thanks again for checking it all out!

Sing in the way that comes naturally to you. People will always draw comparisons and say your voice sounds like 'so & so' or that song sounds like a certain band or whatever. They do it with every singer they hear, it's just human nature to do that, I think. I do it.
But if you sing well, and you do
and if the song is nice, and it is............it's all good in my opinion.

That's damn good J. Nig is right. A cd of music like that would definitely do well with the people here. Hopefully everywhere.

There isn't the Perry Rasp, your voice sounds more to me like the period between Departure and Escape. I like that there is not backing vocals that seemed to dominate the later Journey records. Granted you sound like Perry but I've never heard Perry (pre-rasp) as clear as this with out some kind of sound ambience like on Infinty. Your voice is unique in this recording which I noticed immediately. We all have vocal dopplegangers so I don't mind if you sound like Perry, Cooke or whoever, but this isn't the same sound we, or I my ears, have heard from you. I like it though.

You do remind me a lot of Perry. Sorry if you are not looking for that, but it's true.

Jeremey, people are right that posted you'll never be completely free of a Perry comparison. You sound so much like him no matter what, that isn't a bad thing either!! I love the song, just sing!!! You sing, people will come!

Sounding like someone, and singing like them are TWO different things. I hear Perry's voice, but not his style.

All that aside, I REALLY like the song......

Don't a let a few doomsayers down play the Perry vibe. It's not bad to sound a bit like Steve, ok more than a bit sometimes. Go with it, make some original music. I liked it alot, the mix is a bit vocal heavy, but I'm assuming you're just wanting impressions on the song, not the mix. Good tune, but for some reason I kept wanting the tempo to be a little faster. I want more and would 100% purchase a cd from you. :)
