Perry built a legacy that is paying Arnel's paycheck today. Show some respect .

The Zoo is not a tribute band, it is a cover band and they play songs of other artists as well. I agree with your point though that without Perry, Arnel will still be doing gigs in bars in the Philippines.

Sounds like an oxymoron to me. If this was the case, then why did they hire Arnel? Arnel was both a Perry clone and a tribute band singer.

Just being realistic. If they wanted something "fresh" they should have went with JSS.

One could argue that if they wanted a Perry clone, they would have hired J. Hunsicker; who does not only sound like Perry, but have a slight resemblance with him as well. I think they hired Arnel because he can sound like Perry if needed (i.e. when singing the classics), and can sound himself on the new songs.

yea, pretty much. but, AP is a cover singer, not tribute, cuz he did everyone's stuff. very well, I might add. and they didn't search youtube--they found him here. c'mon. they were watching his youtubes at the same time we were. c'mon.

JSS was the future-AP is a continuation of the past. and that's OK!!!!!!! if that's what they want, it's OK!! There's tons of peeps stuck in the past that will love it!! good for them and the band!!! everyone's happy. JSS is going on as JSS--where he was headed anyway---- where we want him anyway--before he postponed it all to help out. no not a perry, nor does he want to be, but a lifesaver and true friend none the less that has rightfully earned his place in Journey history. his vocal style, timbre, range, blah blah not withstanding.

some of us already did the 80s and are ready to move forward. no harm done. to each his own. no need to criticize, anaylyze, compromise, moralize. tell the truth maybe but no need to have a cow. :?

I have to agree that Neal played his cards right on this choice. The odds of making a fresh start with JSS and filling arenas, selling records, and making money would have been slim. Going with a Perry clone was a sure-thing.

I'm not knocking what they did. I just found it funny that Cain said they were not looking for a Perry clone/tribute singer, when in fact that is exactly what they were looking for.

Can't wait to see them in Saint Louis!

Technically, they DID hire Jeremey Hunsicker. At least, they had started the hiring process with him and things fell through.

Starting the hiring process is different from actually hiring. AFAIK, it fell through because as what Neal said, Jeremey is very good but he sounds too much like Perry and even has a slight resemblance to him, That to me is an indication that they do not want to just be a nostalgia act. As for Arnel sounding like Perry on the classics, I think it's just Journey giving what their fans want. If you have memories of your cherry being popped listening to a Journey song decades ago, then you want that song to sound as close as possible to the original now that you are seeing Journey again on a concert.

On the new songs however, Arnel sounds like Arnel and no one can mistake him for Perry. This, I think is what Jon is talking about wanting somebody fresh.

You guys are missing the bigger picture. JSS said himself that nobody cared who was singing as long as Perry wasn't there. Whether or not Journey was best to move forward or get a pure tenor to sing the songs is irrevalent. In one move, Journey just about doubled its potential audience. Arnel has just about become a symbol of Filipino pride by virtue of being hired by a very large band. Now, every Filipino who lives in the US is a Journey fan BY DEFAULT to support one of their own for making it big. Go to any of the shows, and you'll see a new audience that was never there before. The percentage will vary depending on the location, but you'll probably see some at any place. In one move, Journey went from being an American band with a small European following, to firmly entrenching itself in a very large market in Asia. This is a lot bigger than you think in the non America-centric scheme of things. Journey is now a GLOBAL band.

NOBODY outside of Perry would have brought that success. Not Augeri. Not JSS. Not Jeremey. Not anyone else that is singing in the US. Arnel brings his own audience to concerts--people that likely had no interest in ever seeing Journey before now. THAT is big.

Whether by intention or simply good luck, it was a brilliant decision--and it doesn't even matter how well he sings the catalogue. It's a new audience that they have tapped into.

Yes they technically did hire Jeremey, thing s did not fall through on the bands part. Jeremeny decide not to join, his reason was to be with his expecting wife at the time. Actually Jeremeny told hios story on one of his threads.,

Word! I was shocked when I got Revelation at how unique Arnel's voice was, and most un-Perry-like on most of the new material, while handling the classics very well. I expected new songs with someone trying to sound like Perry and instead got a very nice surprise.

Exactly right Voyager, Look at the Soul Sirkus project Neal lost money on that and to me the music was outstanding but the public was not buying it. JSS is not a draw. Just a fact. Journey played sold out shows in 2006 because they were an opening act for Def Leppard. 2/3's to 3/4 of the audience were leppard fans.
