How are Neal and Jon bad guys for keeping the band alive. This is all misplaced anger. You are angry at the wrong people. Be angry at the guy who ain't there.

Yep...pretty much!

Ask the Augeri fans why they are angry.
Ask the Soto fans why they are angry.
The guy who ain't there is not there because, when he had a medical condition, he said "You know, there's no going back", when they decided to go on without him. Ask his fans why they are angry.
Arnel may get lucky and retire with a gold watch and a lifetime supply of rerecorded Journey music.

"Divorces" are never easy. However, in this particular instance Journey and management were more than fair enough in waiting for Steve to get better and when it was obvious that the catalog had irreversible effects they decided to move on. Steve Augeri was a very professional singer and fulfilled his duties the best he could. He has nothing to gripe about nor do his fans.

The fact that Journey "annulled" this brief marriage was certainly within their rights. Soto was paid well, performed even better and was thanked for his services before being removed. Seems pretty by the book to me and anyone with a semblance of business sense.

They're certainly not angry because Perry recorded record after record after Journey decided to stop playing his shell games, that's for sure!!! The fact that he's released a grand total of zero records makes their decision to continue without the human monkey wrench the absolute correct one.

I never said Neal and Jon are bad guys for keeping the band alive. I have never made that statement. However, through their actions and things they have said in interviews about former employees, I question their integrity and honesty. Sorry if I have too much of a conscious to just focus on the music without thinking about the integrity of those who have created it. Maybe some of you have it right....ignorance is bliss! I, for one, just can't exhibit the same ignorance toward a band that I held very close to my heart at one time. I never have thought of these guys as heroes, but I admired them for their talent and the magic that came through the music. I still admire their talents. But, when masks are pulled off the faces, the magic disappears for me. They're just very talented millionaires to me now. And as long as Journey's fans call me an @$$hole and tell me to f*** off then I'll keep having these same thoughts. After all, those fans represent the band as much as those in the band in my opinion.

ya know...I find it hard to be angry at anyone. I, like most people, would have liked to see Perry tour with Journey again. Nobody knows how it went down (and it really doesn't even matter), but Perry would have done SOMETHING by now if he wanted to. The fact that he hasn't means he either a) doesn't want to......or b) doesn't feel that he can. Either way, it means he isn't out there. If had they waited, there was a 50/50 chance of Perry deciding to do something....or not deciding to do anything. With the benefit of looking back, I can't blame them for moving on. Perry's output since certainly hasn't convinced me he wants to be a musician. Blame the others all you want, but you can't blame them for wanting to play and record music. I'd like to see Perry live, but realize that it is an unlikely prospect. Life goes on--at least I can see Journey.

In regards to Augeri....I'll blame them for going on tour in 2006 with an ailing singer with the risk of doing him permanent damage instead of taking a break for a year. They gambled. They lost. Without hearing Augeri singing in a high range since, one can only hope he has recovered. He is performing live, so that's a good sign. The bad decision did have its silver lining. I was able to see JSS and Arnel perform live. Neither of them were performing near where I am.

For JSS, you may disagree with HOW things went down, but you can't blame someone for changing their mind. Once they decided they didn't want him in the band, the WORST thing they could have done was to keep him. That would have been a disaster. Sure, it probably cost more $$$ than they wanted to spend, but they seem to be happy now. Maybe JSS has some hurt feelings, but he gained a few fans in the process. This board shows that. May not mean much in a financial sense, but the ability to bring happiness to people is a quality that is undervalued.

I find it difficult to remain angry at people for acting like people. Everyone makes mistakes. Everybody screws up and says the wrong things at the wrong time. Some people communicate better than others. Some people are better people than others. Some never change--some do. The theory is "only make new mistakes".

I'd love to see all my favorite bands together with my favorite lineups putting out good new material, playing my favorite songs and slaying audiences at a location that is easy for me to get to. Not going to happen. Some bands are doing well. Some are functioning. Some are rather disorganized. Out of those, some will never set foot in the continent where I live. Some bands don't even exist, and may never get back together. You learn to live with it. These ARE the good old days. In 30 years, you get to say "I got to see Journey live". By then, the band will likely not even exist anymore.

None of us have any say whatsoever in the matter. You either accept what is there, or you don't complain when even that isn't around anymore. The only thing that is for certain is change.

Hey Dr Phil.... I like your marriage comparisons up there,,,, and If I would agree with you on all your points above, would you in return give me a great reason why during the Augeri Marriage, Journey was cheatin on their ill wife and dating Soto ?

Sure will...once the divorce papers are initially filed it's semantics to argue whether or not one party is "cheating" on the other. It's simply not possible.

Whirlwind,

What SJ didn't tell you was the fact that the band did try to contact Steve Perry and were unsuccessful. At least this is what I remember Andrew saying in one of these threads back months ago. And I'm sorry, but the way Jeff was terminated is NOT how things are supposed to be ran in a business. The guy was told by a member of another band for pete's sake. And Augeri, the right thing to have done would've been to have waited for Augeri to have healed up completely. They didn't need to get back out on the road so soon, especially considering the 30th anniversary tour that burned Augeri's throat up a year or so earlier. Some disciples here will keep the blinders on their eyes, but hopefully there are still some sane people who if they continue to follow the band, they'll do so with eyes wide open.

So what? I wouldn't mind if they were talking to him as we speak. The band has long maintained that he has an "open invitation" and all singers since have said they would understandably step aside upon his return.

Greg wrote: And I'm sorry, but the way Jeff was terminated is NOT how things are supposed to be ran in a business. The guy was told by a member of another band for pete's sake.

Far too much band information and very personal information of particular band members was leaked...some onto this site. Turnabout is fair play, Greg. Not to mention Soto and his gaggle of fans showing up everywhere from soundchecks to dinners. Soto trusted a few too many people and they helped squeeze him out of the band by suffocating the other band members...at least that's the way I see it.

Steve Augeri himself knows his voice will never be the same and was asked if he'd like his position band long before Jeremey was considered. Several times, actually. He deferred. He's ok with what happened. You should be, too.

It's a band, Greg. A fucking band. A popular band once again. Stop with the sort of talk about black helicopters, "eyes wide open" and move on to a different band if you need to, but quit making yourself look like a fucking dope. On second though...continue!!!

No, we don't. Perry was going to "win" either way. He was either not going to sing and see how long it took to the band to figure out that he just wanted to stop the Chalfant/Rolie lineup from taking off or he was going to become the sympathetic figure by appearing as if he was forced out with his "injury." The guy isn't dumb...doesn't mean he's honest, though. He had almost a year and a half to decide whether or not he was going to have the surgery and still didn't have an answer for them. Try asking the same of your employer. See what happens.

Of course the band would say Steve Perry has an open invitation to come back. Think of the $$$ they'd make with a Journey reunion with Steve Perry.

And, you're completely wrong. What personal information did Jeff ever leak on this site? None.

Saint John wrote:Steve Augeri himself knows his voice will never be the same and was asked if he'd like his position band long before Jeremey was considered. Several times, actually. He deferred. He's ok with what happened. You should be, too.

Of course Augeri knows his voice was toast at the point where he had to defer. What choice did he have at that point? I'm talking about the 30th Anniversary tour. Three hours almost every single night for how long? That's tough for any singer. The band had dollar signs in mind and sight, not the health of their lead singer.

I have never mentioned anything about any black helicopters. Are you on drugs or something? First you mention Wolverines, then Heaven's Gate, now you're talking about black helicopters. I do work for an agency that can help with SA problems if you need it. And you sir, are the one who's making himself look bad. You can't have a simple conversation or debate without calling someone a dope or an @$$hole and telling them to f*** off? I think the "it's just a band" talk should be pointed back at you. There are much better ways of having a conversation without making yourself look like your 12 years old.

The best indicator of the future is the past, and the fact that Perry only decided to sing when Journey formed a new lineup tells me all I need to know about his agenda. Moreover, the fact that he never agreed to tour and they were dumb enough to take that snake at his word showed everyone that Herbie Herbert was right. He never planned on touring. What albums did he record after the hip surgery? :?:

Greg, I believe these are called analogies. They're quite common in the English language.
Congrats on your 2 'skins getting into the HOF. My brother's a huge fan also. :D

He needs to work on the analogies. Thanks man! I must say, I cried during Darrell Green's speech!

Probably the first time you cried for the Skins since SB XVIII, huh? Sorry couldn't help myself. :D

I think Arnel's english is under rated. Over 90% of Pinoys speak and understand English as it is our 2nd language. Also, Arnel worked abroad for several years and the only way he can communicate with non-pinoys there is by speaking in English. What Arnel lacks is confidence to speak the language. He is a very shy man and still intimidated with what is happening around him. It will change soon, I'm sure.

During the past few months, I have learned not to bet against Arnel. When he was announced as lead singer of Journey last year, some people raised concerns about all sorts of things; from his ability to sing the journey songs, his accent, his ability to memorize the lyrics, and what is now appearing to be a really ridiculous comment about his lack of stage presence. While his song writing ability with journey is yet to be proven, one cannot dismiss that as impossible as he wrote or co-wrote a number of English songs on the two albums he released in the Philippines. Again, I wouldn't bet against Arnel as the odds are heavily on his favour.

Far too much band information and very personal information of particular band members was leaked...some onto this site. Turnabout is fair play, Greg. Not to mention Soto and his gaggle of fans showing up everywhere from soundchecks to dinners. Soto trusted a few too many people and they helped squeeze him out of the band by suffocating the other band members...at least that's the way I see it.

absolute poppycock, even if it is just the way you see it!!

I'm not sure his not speaking much English had anything to do with it. Granted, I've only heard a couple of interviews but he seemed to do pretty well speaking English from what I heard.

Arnel wasn't with Journey yet during the song writing process, was he?

To add to that, on his Zoo videos, he spoke to the audience in English more than half the time.
