You're right..kind of. I think he'll be introduced as "Steve Perry, the guy that made all of the famous Journey songs" and then people will know who he is. Part of the "coolness" about the whole thing is that famous people are doing it. Face it, people would rather have Steve Perry come visit them than me or you. But I get what you're saying...he's not doing it for publicity; he's doing it because it's an awesome thing to do and a way to thank people for the sacrifices they've made. But I think those soldiers would want to know that it's Steve Perry. And that makes it absolutely ok to tell them. 8) And who's the asshole bringing up whether or nmot he can sing in the context of him going to see injured/rehabbing troops? What a fucking tool.

Thank you, Dan.

That's a great idea!!! Steve could simply say "This is a song I co-wrote. I hope in some way it touches your heart and keeps your faith strong."

I'm sure these young men will recognize either his face or his name. I think it's a wonderful thing that he is doing -- I'm sure he is doing this out of the kindness of his heart - and nothing else.

At least he is thinking about the troops -- I don't see a whole lot of other celebrities doing it.....

I'd think that he is not as concerned that these injured vets recognize him by his face or his name. I'd think he is more interested in letting them know that they have not been forgotten and to congratulate them for a good well done. It's not always about the publicity one gets for making such a gesture; he's already getting his name in the papers; it's making the connection with the vets
and showing them your gratitude for a job well done.

I think anyone that takes time out of there life to visit the troops to let them know they are not forgotten and that what they do DOES matter is the most wonderful gift they can give back to a solider. It's not about the notority of it all but about showing support and letting them know how much what they have done for this country is very much appreciated. After all they have given up so much to serve and protect this country. Steve is going a wonderful thing.

If you bring them some homemade food to the hospital or whatever setting they're in, it won't matter if your Perry or not. :D[/quote
] I totally agree, some home cooked food would do wonders for them. Maybe Steve could whip them up a little something; he'd be the most loved man there. :)

What a crummy thing to say. Way to try and hijack this thread to make it into something negative. I'm sure the soldiers will be grateful for the visit from the Giants & Steve.

Ditto that........ These people take the time to go do something good in the world, and you insult them? What good have you done lately? Ask yourself that.

AMEN!! I think they will be very pleased to see him.Its the thought that counts.

This is WONDERFUL news, and I'm so excited to hear he's making a 'public' appearance again. And what a great one to make. The idea of playing DSB is a good idea, but it would be even better for him to perform it live.

I've never met, seen, or talked to SP; however, he does seem to be a good guy overall and I really don't understand the hatred some of this site show towards him.

Maybe I'm underestimating the age range. I still think it's cool.

Cheap shot. Try for a little class: like the guy or not; have your own belief in the state of the voice, but don't shit on a cool gesture.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Anyone dissing Perry, or any other celebrity for that matter, for this
type of venture is a COMPLETE ASSCLOWN!

I can tell you that, while deployed to places like Iraq and Afghanistan,
there are few things more uplifting than getting mail from home
and the rare occasions that celebrities/bands visit on the USO tours.
It is incredible. And if you read recent blogs from bands like Sevendust
and the like, they will tell you that the trips were jusrt as rewarding for them.

Fortuneately, I haven't been injured in combat. But I can imagine what it must be
like and I would imagine that these types of visits, whether there is PR involved or not,
are HUGE moral boosters for those brave men and women...

BTW, if some of you think these "troops" are too young to even know who Perry is,
think again :) Most of the younguns I work with are metalheads, rednecks and rap-fans
but you'd be surprised at how many know of bands like Journey. There is a reaosn
the the GH album is still a huge seller and it isn't us old-timers buying copies to replenish
our stashes in case of nuclear war
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

Agreed. Total cheap shot. That isn't what its about. If I'm lying in a military hospital and Steve Motherfuckin' Perry comes strolling on in, believe me, I don't care if he ain't singing. The fact that he's there... or whatever celeb or sports guy it is, is there... is quite enough for me.

I concur. Foolish heart, I agree, we both know only a selfish heart would feel the need to disrespect a kind gesture. He is not doing it for himself. He is doing it for the troops. I bet even Steve would say they are the stars in this show!

Exactly one of the reasons why SP continues to be my childhood hero.
CLASS MOVE!!!
Anyone (celebrity or not) that takes the time to visit those brave young men and women, deserves some accolades.
It doesn't take much and you have no idea how much those folks appreciate visits from civilians. It means the world to them to know that they are supported and that what they do is appreciated.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!
THEY are the true heroes in this world!!
