That clearly, is your own interpretation of Perry's statements regarding it. While you may or may not be correct, let's try to get away from you stating something as fact by using phrases such as "almost certainly" in your delivery. The *most* I have heard Perry discuss regarding this, (which is no more or less than anyone else here, save for Lora....is Steve saying that he was "toast". That can be interpretted in a TON of different ways....whether "toast" is physical issues, psychological issues, both issues or none of the above....is something left to the imagination and interpretation of the listener.
I encourage people to come to their own opinions regarding this, instead of listing to your statements presented as fact, when you're as much in the dark as anyone. Perhaps, someday, Lora can give us a little more than what's already out there....but until then, no one knows for certain regarding Perry's reasons for leaving Journey in the 80s and 90s...not me, not you, not Arnel, etc, etcTomulator wrote:Jana wrote:TOMULATOR:

Steve Perry said why he cut short the ROR (Though they finished most of the tour). He said he was toast and he was grieving over his mother's death. Steve Perry said why he didn't tour for Trial by Fire. He needed a hip replacement. So the tour didn't happen. No big secret. Now, why he hasn't chosen to record in the last 12 years is the question.
Yes but...my point is that AP said Perry "bailed" (meaning left on his OWN accord) because he "got sick". Now, that implies that it was the ROR tour (recall, SP initiated the ending of that tour saying he was "toast"). My point is that AP is implying that SP was sick and THAT prompted him to "bail". This was way prior to the hip thingy...
Hmmm....

Arnel is hardly an authoritative source for this. When Steve Perry left in 97 and in 87, Arnel had zero contact with Journey, Journey's management or anyone in the US music industry.
What Arnel may or may not say and/or imply regarding these events is heresay...and his heresay is either fueled by what Fucka, Fro others within the band *told* him to say OR his own assumption into the matter.
Nothing more, nothing less.
To try to draw out the real reasons behind Perry's depature in the 80s and the 90s, from something Arnel has said (or was encouraged to say) is at the very least, silly, and the very most, dangerously idiotic.
Tomulator wrote:A few points.
1) SP didn't leave in 1997. The band moved on without him.

2) AP is IN THE BAND...he may know a thing or two you and I DON'T about SP.

Saint John wrote:Your wind-bag response wasn't even logical, Frank. The guy said that it all became too much. If that doesn't scream that his relationship going down the shitter coupled with his mother's death beat his ass emotionally, I don't know what to tell you, man. As for his voice, just listen to the beginning of the tour and the end. He was out of gas. You're now entrenched in your position and you're not going to budge...I can see that. Being proven wrong just isn't good enough for you sometimes. I'm ok with that.
PS I find it hilarious how you've all but called Lora a liar in the past and coined the names "bullhorns" (which I love...sorry, Lora![]()
) and "The Insane Asylum" but now you conveniently use her to aid your argument? Sorry, bud, it doesn't work that way.

Actually, Journey (past & present members & Nightmare, Inc. employees in the know) should have someone write a book about this sh-t. Get everybody's side and let each fan decide what the f-ck happened. Waive the gag orders and let it rip. A good starting point would be the roster of (what was to be) appreciation threads I had and expand from there.

Tito has "Frontiers and Beyond" memorized, guys. He knows every person on the entire cassette..everyone. We're backstage in 1998 and there's a guy walking down the hall...big, sorta mean looking black guy. Tito yells in my fucking ear at about 2 billion decibels "That's Wolfman Black!!!" After my hearing came back I asked him exactly who in the fuck "Wolfman Black" was. He reminded me about Frontiers and Beyond and it rang a bell. I think I called out his name, he turned around, and I snapped a picture...so Tito would leave me the fuck alone!!! He'll remember the story better than me, though.
PS My ear still hurts to this day when I think about that encounter.

News flash!!!! (for those of you living under a rock)
The band doesn't do that.
It's a sad fact. Neal doesn't *do* family. He doesn't want a singer on the road with a family in tow....otherwise they would have arranged for Arnel's family to come along from the onset.
It's sad, and I agree with Brywool's comments on RS's page....for the sake of the band, they need to try to get his family out on the road.
I dunno, the tone of this article sounds very, um....dark. Is that just me or do others see that too?
